AOL Autos is gearing up to give out the inaugural automotive Technology of the Year award next year to the most innovative development in the industry that helps vehicles be more communicative from the road.

As part of that process, we partnered with the College for Creative Studies in downtown Detroit. Students at the school competed to design the award that will be presented to the winner. Last month, they presented their initial designs to panelists from AOL.

The video below details the beginning of that process. Next week, we'll show you the design that won the big prize, which netted the winner a $5,000 scholarship to use toward tuition and supplies at CCS.
