It looks as if Honda may be working on a new Civic Type R for the European market. Photographers spotted this creation poking around the Nürburgring during test runs. With a prominent rear wing, larger exhaust outlets and more pronounced front aero work, the hatchback clearly has some sporting intentions. Odds are engineers have worked in a stiffer set of springs and dampers along with a more powerful four-cylinder engine. How powerful? Early estimates put the machine at between 220 and 230 horsepower, though there's no official word on the figure.

The car is clearly still in the early stages of development, so there's no telling what Honda may come up with in terms of styling, handling or performance. Even so, we have to say what we see here lacks much of the visual menace of the last-generation Civic Type R, so let's hope that Honda finds a bit more aggression for their hottest Civic.

is that gonna be 220-230 NA or forced induction?...intredesting
      • 2 Years Ago
220-230 hp may be laughable to some, but it's still 20-30 more than we get stateside with the USDM Si and it's uninspiring 201hp. Hopefully it's a 2.2L so it has more torque than the K20's, but still is able to rev (the downside of the K24's)

Its a test mule. Its obviously not going to look like that in production form.

Butt ugliest car since the Aztec, maybe even worst. Ugly plastic fender flares, super awkward rear hatch slope, fug bangle butt super fat ass, teensy weensy looking wheels, ludicrous park bench spoiler, swollen pimple looking tail lights, engineering faux-pas little black plastic triangles in the windows, zomg so ugly.

Seems like overhyped speculation to me. Looks like the standard one with a gay spoiler, nothing in these pics say TypeR to me.

Jeez... I can't believe all the negative comments. This is probably the most radical designs in the segment. It's futuristic and NOT BORING. It doesn't make sense to me that people can bash the Euro Civic so much but call the Golf beautiful... by god that has to be the most boring looking car... it's barely changed over the past 3 or 4 generations! This design is cool and fresh and youthful. And if I hear another BS comment about that wing... it's part of the testing equipment.... it won't be on in production *facepalm*

Oh look. Honda's PR dept. is starting their damage control early.

I'm probably an outlier, but I like the looks of the Euro Civic a lot better than the current NA-spec one.

You're not alone, I prefer the Euro Civic over the USDM version too. In my eyes, what appeals to me most is the Euro Civic's edgy(er) styling. It's not pretty but at least it's interesting.

I must be the few who LIKES THE DESIGN. I think it's very clean and won't age as fast as other cars. Just kidding!

Sorry, I downvoted you before I saw the 'just kidding' at the end!
