Volkswagen's partnership with Fender – one of the world's leading musical instrument companies, best known for its rockin' guitars – officially kicked off in the United States with the debut of a new premium sound system in the Jetta GLI. In Europe, however, the automaker's reworked Beetle is the first car to have this high-end audio kit, and to celebrate, Volkswagen has created this special Fender Edition Beetle that makes its official debut at the Leipzig Auto Show.

No, a shiny, new guitar does not come with the car.

Volkswagen Beetle Fender EditionWhat you do get, however, is a Beetle fitted with Volkswagen's 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, as well as standard visual kit like 18-inch "Disc" aluminum wheels, bi-xenon headlamps, Deep Black Metallic paint and Fender logos at the base of the A pillars. What's really cool, though, is the new painted dashboard, done up in a specific sunburst tone that's commonly seen on Fender's guitars. No, it's not wood, but it sure looks like it could be.

Of course, the highlight of this special edition Beetle is the Fender audio system, packing 400 watts of power, nine speakers, a subwoofer and four deluxe tweeters.

Look for the Fender Edition Beetle to arrive Stateside in the fall of this year. Pricing will be announced closer to the car's on-sale date, but for now, scroll down to read the official press blast for more details.

THE BEETLE FENDER EDITION: TWO ICONS, ONE STATEMENT

- Brushed chrome side mirrors, 18-inch "Disc" aluminum-alloy wheels

Leipzig, Germany/Herndon, VA - First seen as a concept car at the Frankfurt International Auto Show in 2011, the production version of the Beetle Fender Edition makes its world debut at the Leipzig International Auto Show. Volkswagen's iconic coupe is not only fitted with the outstanding premium Fender© sound system, but also visually demonstrates its affiliation with the American musical icon.

The Beetle Fender Edition stands out with unique interior and exterior styling. Its distinctively painted dashboard features the quintessential sunburst color of Fender guitars, and the vehicle's interior is accented with color-contrasting seams that complement the dash's colors. Using proprietary Panasonic© speaker technology, the system cuts through noise and other distraction with front dual-voice coil speakers to create a soundstage closely akin to a true, live performance. The concert-quality audio won CNET.com's "Best-sounding car stereo" award.

The Fender Premium Audio System includes no fewer than nine speakers along with a 10- channel amplifier providing 400 Watts of system power:

Four Fender DeluxeTM Tweeters
- Two-ohm soft dome with neodymium magnet
- Wide frequency range and extension
- Incredibly low distortion

- Reveals the harmonic richness of voices and instruments

Two Fender TwinTM Speakers

Great looking wheels. This is the best version of the Beetle I've seen.

Everything about this car goes against what I typically look for in an attractive car, yet somehow, I'm really diggin this new beetle.

While the Fender association does nothing for me, I don't care what anyone says, that thing looks sweet. This is factory retro/nostalgia done perfectly. If I were rich, I could totally own one of these as a low-key daily driver for errands and stuff.

It doesn't come with a Fender Guitar? Then what's the point? Is it because VW is trying to shed the image of the Beetle as a chick car by naming it after a rock guitar? I used to have a Fender Stratocaster but sold it when I was 17 to buy a PS3. I'm an idiot.

For what it is, it looks ok, except for those really bad wheels. Awful.

How does this "Fender Edition" differ from the one shown at the International Auto Show in Detroit last January? Looks identical to me.

This is the first Beetle that I really cared about. This is actually pretty cool and very well executed.
