If news of a more powerful Volvo S60 sounds familiar, it's because we just reported on this subject earlier in the week. Now, though, a reader of the same Swedish site that initially broke the news has fired back with a set of spy photos, and we can clearly see that Volvo is indeed making improvements to the S60.

As for what exactly those improvements are, your guess is as good as ours. As we reported before, Polestar – the tuning firm that now offers power upgrades for the current range of Volvo products – is said to be handling the more potent S60, with horsepower slated to be somewhere in the 350 to 400 range. Volvo could use a version of the Yamaha-sourced V8 from the XC90, but in this day and age, a boosted version of the turbocharged inline-six sounds more realistic.

Of course, a hotter S60 will need more than just power to make it truly competitive with the likes of the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. We're sure that Polestar has many a trick up its sleeve, and we're indeed interested to see how the whole project pans out. Stay tuned.

350-400 hp.... considering the next m3 is do to have around 450-hp, the volvo will be left behind!

I'd rather they put that Polestar C30 into production. Top Gear refused to take it around the track because of the "production" stipulation, but that one would have totally eaten the lunch of all its competitors unlike what I would expect of this S60. For it to really get the journalists to STFU... they would need to make the steering more direct as would the shifting. Those two things alone would at least get it #2 status.

This is nice and all, but I really wish Volvo would sell a proper wagon here in the US. And why not make it an M3 fighting wagon?

I just don't see a V8 being used. But will be nice to see the final result nevertheless.

HAHAHAHAHA! College professors don't make that kinda coin. I'm sure it will be nice car and all, but who in their right mind with a large pocketbook and a performance appetite would buy this instead of a AMG, M, or Audi S?

If Volvo was doing this on their own, then I might agree with you. But Polestar! Polestar makes some totally insane street and race cars. I have no doubt they could make a M3 / C63 competitor, they only question is if they could do it for the right price.

They need to first redesign that ugly thing and then we can talk.... But M3 fighter? I don't think so...

"Stop" while you are a head volvo. There is no way that this car could compete in anyway with a M3. Don't waste your time & money on this. BMW has the game on lock. This S60 will never "handle" like a M3 Take the money that you are about to spend on this and go redesigned the XC90 and bring back the V8.
