Our own lensman Drew Phillips caught sight of this at Cars & Coffee in Irvine, California: the 2013 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. This is the first time it's been seen on our shores. The targa version of the Venom GT packs the same 1,200 horsepower as the coupe – which also debuted at C&C, one year ago – but adds $150,000 to the price. That means you'll need $1.1 million for that wind-in-your-very-rich-hair feeling.

We still don't have exact specs on the car beyond a very limited build and its "enhanced driving sensations," but the high-res gallery of photos above should fill in enough blanks for now.

How/why does this removable roof panel cost $150K extra? I realize the price hike is enormous in the Bugatti and other top-end cars as well, but at least they strengthened other parts of the car instead of just putting rollcage-like beams across the roof.

Because it is a Hennessy.... Look.. this whole car is not worth 150k.. Period. It is a chopped up lotus with a Chevy ZR1 motor in it; and Hennessy does not even build one single part of it. This car is produced in the UK by a UK shop. Hennessy buys them, marks them up, and sells them. If anyone spends money on this POS then they have a screw loose... I'd buy a lambo, send it to underground, and have a MUCH better car for 1/4th the price.

I was waiting for someone else with a brain to say it. If I say it I get in an argument with Elmo about how "great" the car is.

Naa...it`s worth more than $150k. It`s all top-notch materials. Is it worth a mil ? Not by a long shot, when you can get a Ferrari for less than half that.

The Bugatti is a bargain as VW lose about 3.5-3.7million per car sold.

chest rockwell, they didn't "put in" anything. The coupe has those as well... http://technotomotive.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/2011-Hennessey-Venom-GT-Interior-View.jpg

Can't help but hate this car. $1.1 million, and doesn't seem special at all, to me

Would rather have an Aventador sent to Underground Racing for half the price...

Too bad Hennessey has a reputation as a bad actor

While this is an impressive car, it is no where near as impressive as the Aventador. For that kind of money i would buy the Aventador and use the remaining $750k to buy a house to store it in

I don't care what people have to say about Hennessey. That is one badass car, period. Sure, it's heavily based off of the Elise, but so much better looking. Like an Elise on steroids. That being said, I'm sure it's near impossible to ever see that engine's true potential under 100mph due to traction. No matter what you say, with that type of weight, unless you're running F1-spec rubber, there's no way you're going to put down any more than 60% of that power down to the ground. And the price tag is pretty ridiculous. But damn it's a beauty.

BTW, I have seen several driving footage clips online and have yet to see an all out wide-open throttle run of the car. Like I said, i'm sure it'll just be a tire roast-fest.

This is an absolute awesome car, no doubt. 1,000hp+, low weight, true manual. Unfortunately, it's a good $800,000 overpriced, and built by a company headed by someone with questionable-at-best business.ethics. Not to mention he's a total douche. Saying 'Bugatti can kiss his ass'..... what a moron. You know you don't have a clue when you tell the maker of the most impressive, technologically advanced car in the world such a thing. As it stands, though, just about anything is a better investment of 1.1 mil. Namely a Carrera GT, Singer 911, 360CS, CTS-V, and a nice house in my case.
