Jerry Seinfeld may be planning to stage a return to television. The comic and car fanatic has been dropping hints about a new project tentatively called "Comics and Cars." Details are iffy at the moment, though the premise seems to circle around Seinfeld and his wealthy friends hanging out and talking about various vehicles.

Names like Ricky Gervais and Larry David have all surfaced as potential candidates, though it's unclear if Seinfeld will rely on a regular panel of hosts or a slurry of rotating guests. Seinfeld has tried his hand at reality television in the past, though without much success.

The comic's last project, The Marriage Ref, bumbled along for two seasons on NBC before being canceled. There's no doubt that Seinfeld is both funny and a genuine car guy, but if shows like Top Gear USA and The Car Show have proven anything, it's that it takes more than those two elements to succeed.

I loved Seinfeld, and I live in hope more car related shows are successful. But what cars would Larry David discuss? Prius' Mk 1, 2 & 3?

I'd give it a shot. Get Seinfeld and Leno together. Both know there stuff and could be funny. I do enjoy checking out Jay Leno's Garage on the web. Something like that could be cool, worth a try. More car shows, the better the chance one will be good. ..

Cars and big name personalities don't really translate well to mass market TV. I'm sure Leno would prefer doing a car show than talking to the usual assortment of Hollywood dopes but the audience would be minuscule. Car stuff is better left to niche TV (Velocity or what Speed use to be before it became NASCAR and idiot TV).

I agree car stuff is better left to niche TV -- which is exactly why Leno would never do it. Remember, he risked his reputation (and lost a huge portion of his audience) just to be able to talk to those "Hollywood dopes" some more.

GREAT! Can't wait to sit and watch millionaires talk about cars I'll only see and never own... Hmmm.... No thanks. I've never been a Jerry fan anyway.

I would give it a shot. As far as I am concerned any car show is better primetime tv. Seinfeld can be a really funny guy.
