We've had the good fortune of getting up close and personal with quite a few of Icon 4x4's creations, from their off-road wares like the CJ3B and FJ line to one-off restomod hot rods like their Derelict '52 Chevy. While few people may be able to afford the company's offerings, the creativity and thought that goes into each of their vehicles is something everyone can appreciate.

We have a particular affection for Icon and its latest project, the Ford Bronco. We went for a brief drive in the very first example just before it made its debut at SEMA last year and fell in love with every detail of the modernized off-roader. Every trim piece on the car has been laser cut or machined from stainless steel. The unique gauge cluster is inspired by Bell & Ross watches. The interior aluminum is the same found on the inside of luxury skyscraper elevator doors. The Icon Bronco is capable of proving its worth both on and off-road too, thanks to an Art Morrison chassis, custom-built Dana 60 and 44 solid axle assemblies, and a Ford Mustang 5.0-liter V8 under the hood.

Jonathan Ward, creator of Icon, recently invited a documentary filmmaker inside his facility to take a closer look at the Bronco. The resulting film will give you a better idea of what went into developing the Bronco as well what makes Ward tick as both a designer and a builder. If you've like any of Icon's creations, it's definitely worth a watch. Just scroll down and hit play.

Given how well Jeep Wranglers are selling, I can't help but wonder why Ford does not bring back the Bronco. To say it would create quite a buzz would be a conservative estimate to say the least. Currently, the only Fords I can see one considering when fresh off a divorce, or in a state of "midlife crisis" would be a Mustang, in one of its GT or Shelby variants, or a Raptor. Meanwhile, I can think of 4 Chrysler and 3 GM vehicles that would be especially appealing to one in such a situation. So come on Ford, why no Bronco to go toe to toe with the Jeep Wrangler? You helped prove many wrong about the muscle car with your retro Mustang, and started a "pony war" in the process, so why not do something similar with a Bronco revival? You may not be first to the party this time, but you might as well join in on some of the action. Wrangler sales prove that not everyone with a "truck" in mind wants some jacked up station wagon, or behemoth of a pickup.

Time for a new Bronco. They already have several CUV's like Explorer,Edge etc but no BOF SUV.

Still wishing they would build that 2004 Bronco prototype... http://autojunkie.blogspot.com/ford%20bronco%20prototype.jpg

If only Ford would give us a new Bronco to compete with the wrangler.

Nice, very nice. But they have a high center of gravity; just be sure the regular suburbanite doesn't but one without a lot of training (remember the Explorer fiasco of 10+ years ago?).

This isnt aimed at the regular subuebanite

You are absolutely right. I should have phrased it: an amazing number of really dumb people somehow have a lot of money, and some might be tempted to buy this Bronco. Then what happens if one of these nitwits turns it over, driving it as if it were a low center-of-gravity sports car?

God if I had that kind of coin, I'd buy this over a Lambo or Ferrari in a heartbeat. Love the original Bronco look and for Icon to modernize it without losing too much of the old school value in the car is a huge plus.

Ford should bring back the blazer as a jeep competitor. Raptor is nice but too big to really compete with wrangler, its more of its own thing.

I always see glance over the posts on this Bronco and wonder why autoblog features it so much, then I looked at all the pictures and I must say it really is super nice.

I think the success of Raptor certainly proves the fact that real sporty trucks or SUVs still have allures.
