It's never a bad idea to watch video of a Ferrari taking an aggressive stroll down a winding Italian road, and the creative types at Ferrari were kind enough to produce exactly that. To sweeten the pot, the video features the reworked 2013 California, with 490 horsepower and a significant weight savings of 70 pounds.

The enhanced 4.3-liter V8 also makes its audio debut in the post-jump video, and our ears can't get enough of the sweet Italian music. You also get to see just how quickly and efficiently the California's retractable hardtop stows in its boot. Hit the jump to watch and hear the 2013 Ferrari California in Maranello.

I like the car a lot myself. I think it sounds great too but I don't think the video did the car justice in the sound department. They kept editing it which kind of ruined it. Put the top down, put a mic with a mic muff in the cockpit and go all out in a tunnel. I'll bet it sounds awesome!

It clearly never got a dose of WoT, that engine sounds awesome when you get on it!

I hate the rear uses the faux tail lamps, when the ones that should be the tail lights look much, much better

Agree with you there, the back end is where they goofed up on this car.

Still dont get why this is a Ferrari and not a Masserati (Maybe cause they already have the Gran Turismo but still)

I know it shouldn't bother me, but this time I just can't bottle up my annoyance with these idiotic posters. "Sounds boring." "Still don't get why this is a Ferrari and not a Masserati (by the way, you misspelled Maserati, Matt)." "Ferrari did a decent job on the Corvette reskin." You people are just a tick over brain dead. Get an education and go check out the wikipedia article on the history of Ferrari models. The styling of the California has its roots far deeper in Ferrari's past than anything found in the busy mess of the 458's skin. And it's not a Maserati because it isn't BUILT BY MASERATI, IDIOT! That's like saying you don't understand why the Gallardo isn't an Audi. Duh.

Did you really just call the California better looking than the 458? The 458 will be a classic. The California is forgettable.

They're both equally hideous; the 458 just has a more stupid frog face.

That was actually a pretty boring video. The sound of the engine wasn't exciting (plus I'm not a fan of the newer Ferrari V8's having more of a "buzzing" sound instead of the banshee scream as heard from the F355), and the California is just awful to look at. It looks bloated, and there's far too much random crap going on with the design.

Sorry, but still a rich trophy wife's car, but yes, it sounds awesome

have you driven one? I have a lot of miles behind the wheel of a 2010 california and a 2010 458... It's no housewives car. It sounds better than the 458 in my opinion and it is much more refined in terms of comfort. The car can outright stand up and move. Knot to 60 in under 4 seconds destroys just about everything on the road. If i had to chose a 458 or a California as my only car to drive. I would probably chose the California.

Heh, "Knot to 60". I think the word you're looking for is "Naught", unless you're talking about shoe laces or a commonly used measurement of speed for boats.

I don't get people knocking the California either. It's a killer GT car that happens to still do sub 4 second sprints to 60 and earns a lot of praise on the track, so how it's a "trophy wife" car is beyond me. Like you I think I would rather have a Cali as well over a 458.

I still think this is one of the least impressive Ferraris produced in the last 20 years. Glad that they saw it fit for improvement though...

That might sound OK, but man, that is one of the ugliest Ferraris ever. Even the sound isn't as exciting as I would have expected, but that might just be the video.

sounds better than a 458. I've driven both. I like the sound of the california (especially down shifting)

I'm sure this is one great car, but I haven't seen one photo yet where this particular Ferrari doesnt look like a fat pig. The California needs to slim down a bit.

Sounds boring. I would have confused it for a BMW or something, certainly not a ferrari.
