There are lots of automotive video games, from realistic racing games like Gran Turismo and Forza to fun driving games like Mario Kart to social games like Disc Drivin' for iOS. But there is only one Grand Theft Auto.

No other video game brings the dark humor inherent in mayhem like the GTA franchise, and it looks like a new installment will be here in a scant six months. According to a report on Joystiq, a Linked In resume for an animator and employee at game developer Rockstar was spotted listing Grand Theft Auto V with a shipping date of October 2012. Since then, the resume has been removed from the site and Rockstar is not commenting, according to the report.

Of course, the video game industry is as notorious for slipping shipping dates as it is for rumor mongering, so while you might want to place your preorder on Amazon, don't be surprised if you're still waiting come Christmas. Joystiq is skeptical about an October shipping date, pointing out that Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has already announced BioShock Infinite for an October launch, which would put the two titles in unnecessary competition.

Until then, we still have the GTA V trailer, which you can see if you scroll down.

I can't wait for GTAV. I've owned GTA4 since it was first released back in April '08, and continue to play and enjoy it to this day. I even started a new game and beat it all over again about a month ago, and it still felt "fresh" and fun. I'm not holding my breath for a 2012 release date at all, however. I just know that whenever it does ship, that date can't come soon enough!

I will add, that I REALLY hope they include free-roaming backroads and countryside like they had in GTA: San Andreas. I used to enjoy driving through the woods, through back country, up mountainside roads, etc, while playing GTA:SA. GTA4 just felt a bit too "restricted" in that it was all city and nothing else; no open country or anything or anywhere else to drive around/explore. Regardless, I know I'll enjoy GTAV no matter what.

GTA IV just didn't have the fun factor of San Andreas. I have the game pre-ordered for PS3, so I can't wait.

I don't normally line-up for video games. But when I do, it's for this one.

I will wait for gta. Saints is a time waster. Saints row 3 will have you glued for hours. Gta has yet to have a multiplayer coop. SR3RD has them beat on the multiplayer mode.

GTA V is an instant buy for me. If it'll top SR3, it'll keep me glued to the PS3 for hours.

Damn them and their grouping of all the big games at that time of year. So ACIII & GTA VI coming out at the same time?

Truly sad, that a guy can't look for work now, without it becoming a headline... As a designer, this is a total nightmare. The information age has jumped the shark.

I'm getting flashbacks of San Andreas. So glad they're including a lot from that game. Makes me feel right at home being from L.A. and all.

Well it certainly looks amazing. I just hope they've incorporated some new elements to make the game fun again. They just keep feeling a bit more stale each time. They always start off great and I get totally sucked in by all of the new little things here and there and by how each one looks a little bit better than the last but I always get bored rather quickly because it is always essentially the same game.

I won't count on that shipping date BS. Before Gran Turismo 5 was released, there was tons of different shipping dates from different stores. In the end, it was several months off from the exact release date. Also, Rockstar seems to be laying extremely low on the GTAV development. There's no new teasers or anything. So I highly doubt it'll be coming this October.
