Those interested in getting their 650-horsepower kicks in the form of a 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 can now at least partly satiate their longing with an online configurator. And, as you can see above, you are free to deck your favorite 'Stang in any number of classic racing colors... or even in Superman-spec red and blue.

Outlandish color choices aside, there are plenty of interesting options for the fastest factory Mustang ever created, including the expected Sync infotainment technologies, a voice-activated navigation system and a three-subwoofer Shaker Pro audio system. Those looking for some added sportiness inside the cabin can opt for a color-coordinated pair (black and blue in the case of our config) of front Recaro seats for an extra $1,595. Sounds like money well-spent.

For those wishing to check every option available for the car, including a Shelby-branded car cover, the most-expensive 2013 Shelby GT500 hardtop will waltz off the factory floor with a $66,485 window sticker. On the other side of the equation, even a base $54,200 (*plus $795 for destination) car will come equipped with the supercharged 5.8-liter V8 capable of hurtling the GT500 to a terminal velocity of a bit over 200 miles per hour. Performance bargain, anyone?

Feel free to build your own 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 here, and share your favorite config in the Comments. Ready, set... go!

At that MSRP Ford and Chevy are defeinitely at each other's throats. It is cool to see them battling like this again.

So I like how they say you can try out all the kooky color combinations, (well they don't actually say that but you get the point), but ford won't let you combine half of the already limited paint and stripe colors. Wheres the fun if you can't have a black one with a blue stripe?

I know I'ma get a lot of hate for this one, but I'll take my GT500 as a convertible, in white with red leather interior. I don't need to go 200 to have a good time. The low-and-slow rumble's good enough for some good sunny driving and in white with red, you get some understated flash as well. That said, I'd probably be just as happy with a GT convertible.

when is Ford just going to give up? They'll never beat Chevy. For this price I'll take a n/a GS vette, blow the shelby's doors off, and look better doing it.

Ah yes, Chevy always wins, which is why you attempted to compare a Shelby GT-500 to a Corvette, rather than its direct competitor from GM, the Camaro ZL1. It appears your fanboyism has come back to bite you in the rear, as attempt to compare apples to oranges and invariably insult the Camaro ZL1, also an impressive car BTW, by neglecting to even mention it. If I have anything positive to say about your remarks on Mustang threads, it's that they are quite resourceful in terms of revealing your ignorance and generating a few laughs along the way. Happy Trolling!!

My bad... Sometimes those times are put up by ignorant users on that website. So they think by just putting up the minutes and seconds without the milliseconds, that it's just fine that way. The 2013 GT500 hasn't been put up there yet, so it shouldn't have 659hp. I have corrected it by putting up the correct time, while also providing a driver and the video to back it up. It's on the link I provided above.

Too expensive versus the ZL1. The base GT500 is about $900 more than the base (basically fully loaded) ZL1. You can easily add options that make it $10k more.

Though I've seen it a million other times, & not even a Camaro fanboi... as I understand it, there will be precious few ZL1's available. You'll probably be tacking on "market availability" pricing for those as well I imagine.

maybe because it comes with more base content from the get go.....write this down, when they actually HIT the market, they will be within a hairs breath of each other...........well, MSRP that is, who knows what they will actually be sold for...

Including destination charges the configurators show $54,995 as the base price for each. Not counting Guzzler Tax which only impacts the Chevy.

I would like to see extensive and back to back testing of both cars for both performance data and subjective (but non biased) feel before jumping to conclusions. We already know that the ZL1 is a hugely composed and capable pony car, with amazing handling and adaptability for something so heavy, as evident by track and street testing and comparisons. The GT500's conquering power and lither weight mean little if it ends up being a mess on the racetrack and uneasing on the road. You cant assume a car will be quicker and better just because it has a favorable power to weight. But the numbers are promising so far...

On top of that every Camaro so far has been touted as having a far superior suspension setup compared to the Mustang competitor and every Camaro so far has been slower on a road course.

@fly by wireless You're kidding right? The ZL1 has a 140 horsepower advantage and one of the best magnetic suspension systems in the world. The M3 may be 300 lbs lighter, but that isn't nearly enough to make up the difference. The M3 really isn't so mighty, especially considering how overpriced it is. Even the $44k Mustang Boss 302 can match it on the track.

650 HP for 54,2000 bro. That is more HP than a McLaren F1 supercar that cost 1 million dollars in the 90s and is worth even more today.

Do you have any idea of what a poser you sound like? Your comment reminds me of those tools that buy Jeep Wranglers and complain about how it rides like a truck and doesn't come with heated leather seats. Save yourself the money, and get a base model Mustang if it matters that much to you. They still look cool, and will cost you a whole lot less, off the lot, at the pump, and of course to insure. Problem solved!! Now, if you are dead set on spending that kind of money on a car, then maybe you should look at a BMW, MB, Cadillac. Just don't be upset when you have to give up a little performance for comfort. Ain't choices grand?

Idiot remark. Ford GT is one the best "supercars" you can buy. 1) It actually appreciates in value. 2) Its reliable enough to use as a daily driver. 3) Basic mods/tweaks can equal 1000hp.
