When we last checked in with the little bit of speculation there's been on the coming, third-generation Audi TT, rumors said the TT would move upmarket to make MSRP space below for a mid-engined Audi R4. With the R4's future in question, who knows how the TT will play it, but other scuttlebutt says that the TT will be on the MQB platform, will combine first- and second-generation designs and be lighter and more driver oriented.

The snappers at CarPix have encountered a TT mule testing in the snowy north and unfortunately, it doesn't give much more away. The wheelbase has grown – notice the hood shutline is uneven with the front arch, and the arches are said to look wider. The exhaust was described as "more mature," but that could be down to numerous mule-related reasons.

There were hints that we'd see it at last year's Tokyo Auto Show, but obviously that didn't happen. Based on the car in these spy shots, it could be a while yet.

I love the TT. Practical, stylish, economical, & reasonable stowage space. And in TTS form it's quick too. BTW, I'm unsure the TTRS would be for me, it looks to aggressive to my eyes, I prefer the stealth of the TTS. M.

Out of all of the cars Chevy (GM) has, you could only come up with the Impala..... the most terrible one of the bunch????? Seriously? Dear God! What the hell is going on in your head? If you would have said Corvette or Camaro, that would have been okay (wrong, but okay) because it shows that your brain is working. But Impala??? Comments like these make have little hope for the world continuing past 2012.

Hard to tell it is a mule, except for the wheel arches and exhaust. Hopefuly they have the turbo 5 in it.

TT - combining the practicality of all wheel drive with the impracticality of a two-seater. Rather have a Golf R and give up a little style.

Why? Why do they have to get bigger every time?

A mid- engined Audi R4 would be quite exciting.... expecially if it came in priced less than the new boxster
