Ford is launching a new commercial for the redesigned 2013 Mustang that will initially air during the Daytona 500 this weekend. This is the first time that the Blue Oval has promoted its pony car on television since it launched the new 2011 Mustang V6 in 2010.

Conventional marketing wisdom might dictate that Ford would use the airtime to promote the 2013 Mustang's revised design, the 420-horsepower V8 or the pony car's history of nearly half a decade. Instead, Ford is touting the personalization aspect of the Mustang, counting on the fact that more than four million people have already built their own version using the online Mustang customizer.

The commercial depicts a real-life version of the customizer, with a variety of bystanders "unleashing their inner Mustang," turning the car into a custom Mustang GT, Boss 302 or Shelby GT500... and at least one tiny dancer injecting a little darkness into her ballerina outfit for a ride worthy of Natalie Portman.

Have a look at the 2013 Mustang commercial for yourself after the jump, and let us know whether you think it's the most effective use of Ford's ad dollars in the comments section below.

The new Mustang is awesome, without a doubt the best Mustang ever. It doesn't really matter how they market it, People are going to get the most advance, most well-built, and most economical-for-power offered 'Stang EVER. And I'm 54. I remember every Mustang going back to the original 1964 1/2. Don't get me wrong, MANY earlier Mustangs are to die for, but the current Mustang, from V6 to GT500, are, hands down, the greatest every in every measurable way.

That little girl is pretty calm for being kidnapped by a bunch of business men in the middle of the day.

The Mustang has become one sexy beast. I already liked the 2010/11 revisions, but this facelift adds some subtle (or not so subtle, in some cases) touches that really set off the design. Cute commercial, too.

That was the best Ford commercial I have seen in a very, very long time. I really hate that freaking annoying Ford dude (you know, the one) in practically all Ford commercials, trying to swindle people out of their current (non Ford) rides with SYNC "call mom" and self parking, if I were confronted with a pushy salesman like that, I would want to kick him in the balls. And the dumb sheep who always act so impressed as if he were selling magic flying carpets. But anyways, the Mustang commercial was simple, short, to the point, evocative. I LOL'd at the Shelby, it's as if it were thinking "Don't you f*** make me pink, you tutu wearing brat, I'm not turning into a Barbie doll... I dare you... Oh thank God! You surprise me, little Black Swan" No Mustang should be forced to wear pink.

As a big Mustang fan I thought the Mustang was getting dated but this is a hell of a refresh. All the small changes have really restated this car as new and fresh. Now I'm wondering if it's the 13 Fusion or the 13 Mustang.... hmmm
