When Chrysler showed off the new SRT Viper logo earlier this week, something struck us as odd. It looked familiar. A little too familiar. And not just in the Cobra Command way.

It took until this morning and a tip from our friend John to make the connection. Look at the new Viper logo, then look at the Flying Lizard Motorsports on the right. Coincidence? Surely. But still, there's got to be more than one way to draw a nice asp...

      lets see here, same shape? no, does one look like a viper, and one like a dragon? check idk, i really dont see much similarity, one has no tongue, the eyes are looking in different directions, one looks mean and one looks comical.

      Those two do not look similar. You are really grasping at straws here.

      Only thing similar are the direction the snakes head is pointing. Other than that, nothing is similar.

      So if I make a logo of a snake pointing to the left, I'm obviously copying. What an informative article!

      Damon, In my day job I work with logos a lot and have even designed a couple of them. Other than both representing reptiles and both badges being white on primary color backgrounds, there's not much resemblance. One is a lizard, one is a snake. Lizards have external ears and eyelids, as the Flying Lizard logo shows. Snakes have no external ears nor do they have eyelids, as in the Viper logo. The only real similarities are the location and direction of the reptiles' faces and the fact that both have fangs. Of course, all Viper logos have had fangs (as do the Cobra variants used by Ford & Shelby).

      Well since the Lizards won't reveal how they came up with the name or where the logo comes from, we'll never really know if it's supposed to be a snake or not anyway.

      Why is the Viper no longer a Dodge?

        @Avinash Machado
        Chrysler spun off SRT into its own brand, and, thus, it's the SRT Viper. They're going to have to prove to me that move makes sense. I'll give them the opportunity to do so before I bash it.

          SRT is a brand, not a company.

          SRT is considered its own company now. Just like Ram's are no longer Dodge

          Goes to show how much I care about the Viper anymore. And to think, I'd have murdered a baby for a GTS back in the late 1990s... haha!
