BMW has slapped a sticker onto the latest addition to the 6 Series lineup, and the all-new 2013 640i Gran Coupe will carry at sticker of $76,895 (including the $895 destination charge) when it goes on sale this summer.

The 640i is the first variant of the segment-splitting "4+1" sedan, which gets power from the ubiquitous TwinPower turbocharged and direct-injected 3.0-liter inline-six putting out 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. A 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8-powered 650i Gran Coupe will be on offer later this year in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive guise, although BMW is holding off on pricing those two 445 hp models until closer to launch. Full details in the press blast after the break.

2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe priced at $76,895

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 9, 2012... BMW of North America today announced pricing for the all-new 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe. The $76,895 (including $895 Destination and Handling Charge) TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder powered 640i Gran Coupe is the initial model of the range, and arrives early this summer. Later in the summer, the TwinPower Turbo V-8 powered 2013 BMW 650i Gran Coupe and the all-wheel drive 2013 BMW 650i xDrive Gran Coupe will join the line. Pricing for the V-8 powered models will be announced closer to the time of launch.

The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is a new 4-door, 4+1 seat addition to the 6 Series line that successfully combines the stunning proportions, design and driving dynamics of the 6 Series Coupe with interior room and amenities for up to five passengers. The 640i Gran Coupe will also be previewed at the Amelia Island 2012 Concours d'Elegance in Amelia Island, Florida from March 9-11.

      I think I must be missing something here. The base 640 is priced at a $5,000 premium over the base 740? Really BMW?

      I wish BMW would build an honest, small coupe weighng about 2600lbs, manual, straight six, and with a quality that would allow it to achieve 300,000 miles.

        With todays safety standards a 2,600 lbs. premium car would be impossible.

          I myself don't want a 'luxury' car. I want a driver's car.

      Add two doors to a 640i and you paying additional $3500. Take away two doors from a 3er and you're adding $3500. What is it you people want? I have taken the 640i and 650i out and the extra $10k is only buying you half a second to 60. Out above freeway speed limits the 650i does pull faster to 100mph, but the car is so numb and idiot proofed it's not that fun to drive. You would think two turbos and a 4.4L V8 would have better vocal cords with the top down, but it is just far too quiet to cross shop this thing against any performance car. If you mash on the throttle and hit that BMW click in the pedal it will automatically upshift before touching the redline. What the hell are the flappy paddles there for? It's trying to be too many things for too many people. BMW, I want a coupe but when I want to drive to the club with my three other douche friends it has to have four doors, and fuel economy. It's probably going to be around where the 535i is somewhere near 30mpg/hwy. If you want a sexy coupe, find a pre-owned Vantage V8 for less than a new 640i. If you need more seats and doors buy a second car. That's why Americans have 3-door garages, or that tandem garage if you have the third car that you're hiding from the repoman.

          The X6 certainly supported that idea.

      people would actually waste their money on this instead of a CLS or A7?

        Because people like to drive and not be a passenger like the two sleeping pills you mentioned. One looks deformed and the other one never really looked good at all.

          You obviously haven't driven a bmw in the last 3-5 years. They are giving Lexus a run for their money in the 'driving boredom' category.

      I like it. I also like the Audi A7 and Benz CLS. They're all hot. Now, please tell me why in gods name there are people out there who are comparing a Lexus ES to these masterpieces? The Lexus ES isn't a 4-door coupe! It's a glorified Camry. OK? Jesus...

        @David J. Bernstein
        You are right. They shouldn't compare it to a Lexus. Lexus cars have better quality and last 300,000 miles. BMWs last 100,000 miles or 120,000 if you are lucky. As far as looks and performance are concerned, I think the 2013 Lexus GS beats this hands down. 640i is nothing but a glorified 335i. OK? Jesus....

          Do you keep your cars or appliances like Lexus for 300,000 miles? I don't think so. Who gives a **** if the car can run 300,000 miles. A 5-7 years old cars nowadays are old and outdated. Look at a 2005 BMW or Mercedes. Lexus=Booooooring. Go get back in your Corolla and keep driving it!

      BMW really needs new designers. Most of their cars are boring as hell....then when they at least try to do something bold it look freaking horrible. But I guess as long as the lemmings line up to buy them..........

      I think this is BMW's new target price range - 60k+, They're losing the 3 series market because it's unsustainable. It's looks now to be a car for the super rich who want some soul baked in to their toys. They're a Jaguar competitor now.
