Surveillance of parking lots across Great Britain has shown, contrary to popular belief, women are better at parking than men.

A comprehensive parking study took seven different parking styles into account and drew some interesting conclusions. Women are higher-quality parkers although they take longer to park, according to the footage. They were better at finding spaces, more accurate in lining themselves up to enter a space and more likely to use driving instructors' preferred method of backing into spaces.

Men, on the other hand, were found to be more efficient and displayed more confidence, but less accurate when parking. Because they were less likely to reposition, they ended up more askew in their spots.

Niel Beeson, the driving instructor who designed the experiment, said he found the results surprising.
Are men or women better at parking?
Men 4086 (58.8%)
Women 2862 (41.2%)

"In my experience men have always been the best learners and usually performed better in lessons," he said. "However, it's possible that women have retained the information better. The results also appear to dispel the myth that men have better spatial awareness than women."

The score sheet

Car park firm NCP produced the study, during which researchers observed 2,500 drivers across 700 different parking lots.

Seven aspects of a person's parking job were scored and a final tally produced a "parking coefficient" for men and women.

All in all, the study found that women were slower to park, but, because they took their time, were ultimately better parkers. Fifty-two percent of women ended up in the middle of their respective spot, compared with only 25 percent of men. Additionally, 39 percent of women backed into spaces -- the expert recommendation -- compared with 28 percent of men.

Interestingly, the study also showed that men were more likely to "pose park," meaning that when driving with a female companion, they were more likely to choose a smaller parking space in order to show off.

Women scored 13.4 points out of 20 overall, compared to 12.3 points for men.

The results contradict a previous study from Britain's Driving Standards Agency that showed tens of thousands more women fail the parking portion of their driving exam than men.

"It shows that us men need to give our partners more respect when it comes to parking. The facts don't lie," Beeson said.

Did anyone notice that the pictures all show women driving on the right side of the car: not on the left as inthe US.. Another fine article by HP!

Yeh, you should see my girlfriend park parallel with a cell phone sticking out of her ear. She's really good at parking that cell phone; not the vehicle.

It is hysterical when articles like this are posted. Everyone, including women, know they are far worse drivers than men. It's like saying old drivers are better because they have fewer accidents. That's because, like women, drivers around them are getting in accidents trying avoid them. Good female drivers exist and possess the ability to pay attention, anticipate what is happening ahead of them and stay out of the left lane, but they are few and far between.

Obviously this survey was not done in a densely populated city eg:NY, 1st) womwn drivers cause the most accident by their constant in abality to come to a quick decision when it really counts or is needed. 2nd) surveying by DMV records can never be accurate because male drivers outnumber female by at least 4 to 1 therefore spurring more accidents ,more male taxi drivers truck drivers even motor cycle riders. 3rd) in New York most of the time it's not possible to back into a parking space, the drivers are just not that courteous instead of waiting for someone to back in they are more likely to try and squeeze in behind you while you are waiting for your break to back in.

"womwn drivers cause the most accident by their constant in abality to come to a quick decisions when it really counts or is needed" There have been no studies justifying this statement and you trying to justify it in the subsequent sentence with some poor understanding of science and statistics is laughable. For some reason you don't think people are smart enough to be able to find a probability value to the sample size.

There's obvious inadequacy in this study as well (criteria, sample size, ratio, etc..). Difference is, men aren't trying to justify anything with these sorts of silly articles. Who pays for this stuff?

What do you expect? This study was done in England AND it only involved parking! What about the rest of the driving task? As a former drive ed. instructor, I have had many good female driving students, but not nearly as many as male! LOL, boy oh boy, I could tell you some stories of driving that would have you doubled up and crying in laughter!

yeah sure they are lmao what a joke. I drive professionally and believe me, women don't know what they are doing behind the wheel other than putting make up on or texting or talking on the cell phone.

now explain why it takes forever for a woman to move out of a parking spot after she gets in the car

What a horseshit waste of time this is. So 1 out of 100 of them can actually park, but when she does...WOW!! As it happens women are also really really good at pissing off male drivers. Does that count too? This is like saying the ******* who rides next to a truck in the passing lane and refuses to pull over is really good at matching the speed limit.

        @superbombastik
the speed limit is the speed limit, so why are you worried about someone you can't legally pass anyway? i drive beside that truck (at the SPEED LIMIT) all the time just to prevent ******s like you from endangering the rest of us.

You are endangering people even more with that action. Ever hear of road rage? It's caused by people like you that refuse to pull to the right lane and let others pass. Then I am ssure you also b$tch about being tale gated, when you are bringing it on yourself. Not sure about all states, but where I live there are signs that the slower traffic stay to the right, and it is a law. Going 75mph in a 70mph zone it not nearly as dangerous as some jerk trying to teach someone a lesson.

Thank you SO much for contributing to Road Rage. Drive right, Pass left. It is NOT your job to enforce the limit, but it IS your responsibility to follow some very simple guidelines when it comes to highway driving. Your behavior is called "Passive Aggressive", look it up if you have to. People have been shot for less than this, I get out of their way and let them speed if they wish. Do you want to risk it?

I'd love to be on a jury when someone finally chases you down and beats the snot out of your arrogant, incompetent self. I'll recommend that he gets a commendation. You are far more a part of the problem than the solution.

This study was conducted in Britain where they drive on the wrong side of the road and you barely tell the men from the women.Woman I know are illergic to parking, particually parallel parking.

Are all men allergic to proper spelling and grammar, or is that just you?

Oh please. Not at parallel parking. I've been marreid 4 times and none of my X-wives could park a car unless it was in front of a huge shopping center with multiple vacant parking spaces; Target, Kohls, etc. All my X-wifes drove by braille or sound.
