Downsizing? What downsizing? While rivals may be replacing cylinders with turbochargers – heck, even Audi itself has done that with the twin-turbo V8 succeeding the V10 in the S8 and such – the new RS4 is reportedly on its way in full-fat 4.2-liter V8 FSI trim.

The report comes courtesy of AMAG, the importer for Audi in Switzerland, which has confirmed that the RS4 Avant (oft spied in prototype guise) is scheduled to debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show this coming March. Along with it, we're told to expect a series of new TSFI engines and an upgraded TT-RS with 360 horses.

As for the RS4 Avant, we're looking at 450 horsepower with all-wheel drive and enough cargo capacity to make any luxury crossover buyer reconsider (much like the S4 Avant pictured above, only more so). That is, buyers in Europe, anyway, as we're not expecting the RS4 to make the trek across the Atlantic.

Love it. Sad americans would miss the point of 450 ponies and AWD and complain that it doesn't turn heads. They don't quite understand the modest sleeperesque image these cars produce. It's all about looks, sound, THEN performance. This car is about performance without sacrificing practicality, THEN looks/sound. Completely backwards to the way Americans think. No wonder it's not coming here.

The RS4 sedan will come here. You can take that to the bank. Audi would be MORONIC if they didn't bring it over. This thing compete with the new M3, the C63 AMG, and the ATS-V.

Audi would be stupid not to bring this over...if the CTS-V wagon has a market here, the Avant should too

As a current owner of an A4 Avant, this would make a fine replacement. PLEASE please please Audi, bring it over the pond!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you, as a current owner of an A4 Avant, would LOVE to have one of these .... just as long as you can purchase it for the same price as your A4. There is no business case for Audi to bring this car here so long as the only people who want to buy it aren't willing to pay for it.

The Audi Avant is the single, best-looking wagon ever. Why Americans love fugly SUVs is beyond me.

Totally agree. I used to have a '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In 2002 I was in Germany for two months on business. During that time I had a rental 2000 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T diesel. I absolutely loved that car, (as well as driving it 135 mph on the autoban). My first day back home driving my Jeep I had the revelation that I just couldn't drive it anymore after the Audi, so I immediately went and traded it in on a 2002 A4 Avant 1.8T. I kept that for the four year lease and liked it so much I turned it in and bought a 2006 A4 Avant I still drive today. No problems with either car and all the positives of quattro. Even with summer Pirelli PS2's, I have no problems navigating snowy mountain roads when I drive up to Mammoth and Lake Tahoe.

Sigh. Thanks, Audi USA for *not* giving us this, but forcing the A4 Allroad on us with ugly cladding, and silly road clearance. [/sarcasm] I'll be hanging onto my '11 A6 Avant for as many years as possible.

Could not agree more! I really hate Audi USA. I'll also hand on to my A6 Avant as long as possible and replace it with an E-Class wagon when the time comes. At least MB still has the sense to offer a wagon!

The F20 1 series looks like a derp with Down Syndrome. This Audi looks like a sexy, sharp styled sports wagon.
