One rear-drive coupe with over 500 horsepower would be enough for most automakers. But not General Motors. The biggest of the Detroit automakers just couldn't get by with what some rivals would put on a showroom turntable with more flood-lights than an ATF raid. That's why it makes the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and ZR1, the Camaro ZL1 and the Cadillac CTS-V. (And that's before we get into overseas products like the Holden Commodore GTS/Vauxhall VXR8.)

The question is, which one is best for burnouts? To bring us one step closer to the answer we all crave, our compatriots over at Inside Line took two such 500+hp GM super-coupes – the Z06 Centennial Edition and the CTS-V Coupe – down to the Streets of Willow for the fifth installment of their Burnout Super Test.

So, which of the General's eight-cylinder muscle machines laid down the longest strip of rubber? We won't spoil it for you, so follow the jump to watch the video clip and the link for the full article.

Forget the burnout crap. Let's see a well shot, well edited head-to-head in the quarter mile. That's all of my car friends and I want to see. Not a lot of talk, stats, etc... just the race. Okay?

Ok, I read your comments and I guess I'm one of those burnout idiots, occasionally. Hey, why else do you need 551 lb ft of torque. I have to make a correction though. I have a 2010 CTS-V Sedan with automatic and you don't have to power brake it to burn out. Just turn off the traction and stability control, put the trans in sport mode auto and stab the throttle. It will do a burnout to the rev limiter thru second gear and when it shifts to third it would probably still roast the tires but the traction control seems to come back on and kills the power. Just thought I would give credit where credit is due. Yeh, the Corvette is still king though. BTW, not a Redneck PG, who says you have to be a certain something to love power. I also race sport bikes. Live a little.

So the vette is quicker?. fine..still a crude and ugly low quality vehicle. Even the Camaro is a superior car unless 0-60 times are your only justification when buying a vehicle. The next generation needs to drasticly improve the crappy low bucks interior. GM interiors have improved alot lately and the vette needs both an interior and exterior make over in a bad way.

The Camaro's interior is just as bad, its exterior is worse, and it's a pig. A top of the line ZL1 Camaro might pull better 0-60 times than a base Corvette, but it weighs nearly 1000lb more, has worse visibility, and is the only Camaro that can remotely handle well, because the SS and V6 prefer vague understeer and lazy responses. The Vette might not have the cartoonish styling, but it is a sports car capable of running against the fastest, best handling supercars on the planet. Is it crude? Yes. Low quality? Only in the cosmetic bits. Bringing up the Camaro as something 'better' just destroys the credibility of your argument.

I must be the only person on this planet that has never gotten all giddy at the sight of a burnout. I don't understand what people see in them, really.

Seeing them is over rated especially the way that guy was abusing the car. Now doing them? Well... Have you ever drifted? Try it, you'll come to the other side. lol.

Where are the environMENTALists? Our ozone layer has been further compromised by this stupid test. BTW, how can I get a six figure income like that knucklehead burning rubber all day?
