Dodge has given the 2012 Charger the black treatment with a new style package debuting at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. The 2012 Dodge Charger Blacktop is as monochrome as a vehicle can legally be.

With tinted windows, massive blacked-out five-spoke wheels and a smoked tail light array, the Blacktop package gives the already purposeful Charger an even thicker dose of attitude. In fact, the only color we can spot outside are the aluminum exhaust finishers. Details are still scarce on how much the package will cost you, though Chrysler has said that the vehicle will feature a standard Dr. Dre Beats audio system when it debuts.

As you may have heard, the stereo features 10 speakers pushed through a 12-channel amplifier, and an 8.4-inch Uconnect screen controls the sound. While Chrysler hasn't said exactly what the Charger Blacktop will feature under the hood, we suspect a certain familiar 5.7-liter V8 or a 3.6-liter V6 are good bets. Hit the jump for the press release.

Not just speakers, the Beats™ Audio system in the 2012 Charger was designed by Chrysler Group engineers in collaboration with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine
Available in the first-quarter of 2012 on select Dodge Charger models

January 6, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - With the world's largest gathering of electronic technophiles in attendance at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Chrysler Group and Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ announced today the next chapter in their bold new partnership that brings the studio quality sound experience of Beats™ Audio technology and places it into an iconic American performance sedan: the new 2012 Dodge Charger.

"Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine have built their careers on revolutionary and forward thinking decisions that formulate trends in music, popular culture and technology," Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Dodge Brand. "Our goal in partnering with Beats by Dr. Dre is to integrate their recording-studio quality audio experience for our Charger enthusiasts to feel and hear their favorite music as it was intended – all while heightening the street performance and technology assets of the new 2012 Dodge Charger."

Simultaneously debuting at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, audiophiles will be able to experience firsthand demonstrations of the Beats By Dr. Dre audio system within the Chrysler Group exhibits at both venues.

Beats by Dr. Dre founders Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine worked side-by-side with the engineering team at the Chrysler Group to design and tune the 10-speaker audio system. The resulting audio experience offers the new 2012 Dodge Charger sound that only music experts like Dr. Dre, a legendary producer and artist Iovine, an acclaimed producer and chairman of Interscope Geffen-A&M Records, could achieve.

"Dodge Charger owners are people that are highly emotional about their connection with their favorite music," said Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen-A&M Records and co-founder of Beats by Dr. Dre. "There's nothing more exciting than a high performance car combined with a high performance audio experience – and the integration with Beats Audio technology into the Charger is the next logical step in our exclusive automotive expansion with Chrysler Group."

Introduced less than a year ago at the 2011 New York International Auto Show, Chrysler Group is the first automaker to integrate the Beats by Dr. Dre audio system in its vehicles. The system currently is standard with the 2012 Chrysler 300S and available as an audio upgrade in additional Chrysler 300 models.

The addition of the Beats by Dr. Dre audio system to the 2012 Dodge Charger lineup emphasizes the partnership and commitment by Chrysler Group and Beats by Dr. Dre to bring the latest technological advancements in sound quality to Chrysler Group's newest models. The Beats Audio system will be standard equipment on the 2012 Dodge Charger R/T Max and included with the Blacktop Package or Rallye Appearance Group on Dodge Charger SXT models. The Beats Audio system is also included with the Sound Group and Wheels and Tunes Group on Dodge Charger R/T models.

High-performance of Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ audio system delivers the sound and feel
State-of-the-art Uconnect® Touch 8.4 provides 2012 Dodge Charger passengers with the segment's largest touchscreen display (8.4-inch) and next-generation mobile connectivity, convenience and multimedia features. In addition to a "Beats by Dr. Dre" start-up screen, the Uconnect Touch also controls the 12-channel amplifier that integrates the heart of the Beats proprietary equalizer algorithm, creating the high-definition sound Beats Audio founders Dr. Dre, and Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, require in their professional recording studios.

The integration of Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ audio system delivers the mid- to high-range needed for studio-quality sound. Included in the system are:

Three 3.5-inch speakers located in the instrument panel
Two 3.5-inch speakers located in the rear doors
Two 6 x 9-inch front-door woofers provide bass
Two 6 x 9-inch speakers and a center-mounted 8-inch speaker located in the rear-shelf area provide full-range audio
Maximizing how music genres from hip hop to Motown should sound and feel, an 8-inch Beats Audio trunk-mounted dual-voice coil subwoofer with sealed enclosure delivers tight, powerful, punchy bass

The 2012 Dodge Charger models powered by Beats by Dr. Dre audio system will arrive at Dodge dealerships nationwide in the first-quarter of 2012.

Old news...I bought one last month! Though mine didn't have the Beats Package but does have a 9 speaker system with a 12 channel amp (509 watts). Looks like I'm missing a 3rd dash speaker. Blacktop package has it's pros and cons though. Pros - With the tinted windows it's definitely wicked looking and will get attention! Cons - Be prepared to be trapped in a rolling road block because people run side by side on the highways looking at it, people in front think you're a cop and slow down and someone is always riding your rear no matter what car you drive! Also seems impossible to keep clean and stay clean! But it's so worth it when it is! Good car for the money...time will tell if it holds up well.

A few other things....My Taillights I don't think are smoked like the photo is showing but does add to the look even more...That may just be for CES. Also I don't think windows are tinted from the factory either. Mine were when I bought it from the Dealer though. I think they did that before the put it on the lot. Every video and review of the Blacktop Package has has a car without tinted windows.

These days, an all black Charger coming up behind me is about the most intimidating sight I can think of. I especially love the sight of a stealthy, blacked out Charger SRT-8, just so long as it doesn't have any blue lights mounted anywhere. Given that the State Police near me drive them, a car like this has become a sight that I both love and hate.

Is this what Darth Vader would drive? Now THAT is sweet.

The Charger is quickly becoming the Mustang of four door sedans.

I would say it has been since they brought it back in 2006. It's basically a 4 door "muscle car". There is nothing else like it, as Ford chose to go a different direction with the Taurus, and GM does not have the guts to take the Impala to this level of coolness.

Ordered and took delivery of my 2012 Charger R2T2STP (LXforums code for > R/T Road & Track with Super Track Pack) > I paid an additional $650.00 for the upgraded 506 watt, 10 speaker Alpine > sound system. This is hands down THE WORST sound system in ANY vehicle I > have ever owned. I also own a 2007 Dodge Charger Daytona with a 276 watt > Boston Acoustics sound system that will rattle the windows at 3/4 volume. > It has so much bass you can feel the air movement from the speakers, WITH > NO powered SUBWOOFER. The new 2012 sound system has virtually NO BASS at > level 38, (wide open) > Maybe Dodge had better think about retrofitting some very dis-satisfied > owners vehicles with the Dr. Dre system.

Agreed. My Wife's PT Cruiser seems to have more punch than the Chargers Alpine. It's ok..but not the wow factor they try and make it out to be. That and only 3 EQ settings was disappointing too.

Very nice! In Canada you can also order an "Enforcer Package" that looks the same, minus the spoiler. I can't find it on the behind-the-times-please-answer-a-questionairre-about-our-outdated-Canadian-site-that-should-just-be-updated-to-look-like-the-US-site-without-any-questions, but my dealership has one!

It's funny how long and slow its taken black (and dark graphite) wheels to go mainstream. This, like the Jaguar XK Black Pack is really nice. It's mean, slick and cool. Love it!
