The Detroit Auto Show is right around the corner, now just a few weeks away. And with each approaching day, we get a clearer picture of what to expect when the doors open at Motown's Cobo Hall on January 9.

Here we have our first glimpse at a new concept car which Lexus will be unveiling at the show. All we have to go on so far is the teaser image you see above (which you can click to view in high resolution) and a brief statement (after the jump), but from what we can tell it looks very aggressive, and rather sportscar-like.

Penned by Lexus' Calty studio in Newport Beach, the concept is said to preview a bolder new design language for the Toyota luxury division. We're sure to get more information and a better look as the show approaches, so watch this space for more and feel free to speculate in Comments.

I thought the new GS was supposed to signal the new styling direction for Lexus?

That was before they realized the GS was going the wrong direction.

Perhaps they realized it was hideous and have already planned the next refresh...

That looks pretty agressive for Lexus. I guess Mr. Toyoda was serious about more expressive cars. hopefully the driving experience will match the looks.

I think I can still make out the 'spindle' grille of the GS in the lower left. I noticed yesterday the CT200h grille has the same sort of shape to it too.

Not an LFA successor but I have a strong feeling it will be the next Lexus SC.

I just had another thought. Wasn't there a rumor of an SC430 successor? LC600h? Could this be it maybe? A roadster penned by a California design studio? Seems to make sense.

actually the SC was one of the first or the first car designed at Calty.... a giant blob o clay was it's inspiration.

There is. Rumors state the next SC will feature a new version of Lexus's hybrid system for the LS600hL.

Calty has came out with some of the more pleasant and interesting designs for Toyota lately, so hopefully this new concept will be better than the GS in every way.

Very curious to see their new styling direction. Judging by the picture, it's looking very sporty. I really hope that Lexus will introduce or bring back of the sporty coupes, because they could use some.

Re-read "Supra Like". I could have said "muscle car like", or "ferrari like".... Like a Supra, RWD, two door and fast.
