It's been a spell since we caught wind of the rumored BMW X6 fighter from Audi, but Automotive News Europe reports the vehicle is still in development. The publication quotes Walter de'Silva, design chief with the Volkswagen Group, as saying Audi will definitely launch a more athletic crossover positioned between the Q5 and the Q7. Details are understandably scarce at the moment, but the vehicle will likely be designed to help Audi tap into the premium softroader segment where buyers aren't afraid to pay top dollar for a vehicle. Unless Audi unexpectedly decides to completely scrap its alphanumeric naming scheme, odds are the newcomer will wear Q6 badges when it bows.

Previously, we've heard the Q6 will ride on the same bones as the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, though no engine specifics have surfaced as of yet. It doesn't take otherworldly powers of deduction to realize it wouldn't be difficult for Audi to produce a hybrid Q6 if the vehicle does, in fact, share a chassis with its Volkswagen and Porsche cousins.

What about other bouncing baby crossovers from Audi? De'Silva said that the company is still investigating whether to introduce a new Q4 to give BMW X4 buyers another option.

It's a shame, it wouldn't be acceptable if only 1 German Manufacturer had an ugly car.....

Considering most of Audi's rolling electric shaver lineup, and the turds BMW and Mercedes are producing, how much uglier can German cars get?

As long as there are tasteless rich people willing to lease these things, the car companies will build them. I know, it's grotesque, but that's business.

ggrrrrr... I hate the X6. I think it's a hideous, confusing looking vehicle. I wish Audi would bring the A5 hatchback to the USA instead.

LOL!!! Why? Is there REALLY a need for one? What next? The big 3 Germans scramble to come up with a rival for the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet? I mean, really, who makes these decisions?

Audi reminds me of a little retarded brother that repeats everything that older brother (BMW) does. A7 copy of GT5, Q3 for X1, and now this. Audi needs to get a life and do their own stuff. BTW X6 and GT5 sells very well around the world, so thats why Audi wants piece of cake too. Audi will never beat BMW because it a FWD crap for people who like LEDs allover a car. The fun was always a RWD and always will be.

A giant CUV that has road presence but yet reinforces its lack of practicality? Are there really buyers (leasers) that stupid?

You missed one: the BMW 5GT is just as pointless.
