European automakers have long since favored fuel-sipping diesels over plug-in electric vehicles, but that's all about to change with new EV-focused programs from two of Germany's biggest manufacturers: BMWi and Audi e-tron. We head to the 2011 LA Auto Show to check out the BMW i8 and i3 concepts, and ride along in the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron.

      I love your show and I watch it every week. With this episode I was really sad no place was given to Renault/Nissan ... Nissan, I know is really old news, but what about Renault? Nothing pure electric? They will be launching 2 electric cars in January 2012 (Kangoo Z.E. and Fluence Z.E.) and the Twizy, priced 7000 Euro (give or take 9500 USD) with no government subsidies, March 2012 here in Portugal. The ZOE is expected by the end of the year ... but still, much better then Audi or BMW that promise something much later ... That's what I call a game changer! Bringing affordable EVs to everyone. Anyway, love your show! Keep it coming!

        Thanks Nuno. We're excited to hear that we have a loyal fan in Portugal! We agree that many European manufacturers--not just Audi and BMW--are starting to do some exciting things in the EV marketplace. We chose to focus on these two manufacturers because they share a common German heritage and, as axiomatik suggests, were both represented at this year's LA Auto Show. You'll be pleased to know that we're actually shooting some episodes in Europe right now and, although I can't promise any Renaults, I can tell you that we'll have lots of cool tech from "the other side of the pond" featured on TRANSLOGIC in the months to come.           Hi Adam! Thanks for you reply! My quibble was only with the "only European manufacturers", Renault was an example. Tazzari Zero, Bolloré B-Zero (or Pininfarina Bluecar, being used in Paris in a car sharing program) are some examples of current electric deployments in Europe. Also very interesting the upcoming Rimac Concept One or the Lightning GT, hope to see some talk about those. Great show! Can't wait for it every week!

        If you notice the title of the video, this is about EVs at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. Renault wouldn't have been there, since they don't sell in the US.

      Fuel and Fluid Spills a Concern?
