Subaru and Toyota have certainly set the internet afire with the BRZ and GT86. Critics and naysayers are already deriding the vehicles as too low on power to survive in a world where the Ford Mustang V6 packs over 300 horsepower and the base Hyundai Genesis Coupe boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 210 ponies. But you know what? They can stuff all that nonsense. At the end of the day, curb weight has as much to do with a vehicle's fun factor as any horsepower figure, and given that the Subaru BRZ tips the scales at a shave under 2,700 pounds, the machine should be a blast to fling around a road course.

Now Subaru has given us a glimpse of what that might look like with a new video of the vehicle. While the clip is set to some seriously painful adult contemporary tunes, images of the 200-horsepower boxer-four coupe getting sideways are what dreams are made of. Hit the jump to check it out for yourself.

Love that this is a Subaru, much prefer the subtler front-end to Toyota's treatment. Car looks very nice in motion as well. If the STi version makes 275bhp+, this will be a big hit.

Wow. I am just amazed at the poor choice of music on that vid. I don't know what the target audience is for that commercial, but it sure isn't me and it sure isn't anyone who'd be interested in a $25k Subaru sporty car. For my market, they should have gone with some Lynyrd Skynyrd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsIqEq9OFxE. As for the car, let's just say I'm not nearly as excited as the rest of the autojourno world seems to be. I'm all for Toyota making something a little more sporty, but Subaru already makes one of the better mid-range sports cars for around $25k, and while the shape of the BRZ is certainly more sports-car like, it's also doesn't really look like a Subaru to me. Hopefully 2013 brings a 265HP+ turbo variant - a hood scoop on the BRZ would go a long way to fixing both its style and its image. Nothing, however, will fix that song.

I like this clip Subaru Japan uploaded better. Too bad it's all in Japanese. But I thought it gives a good impression of the engine/exhuast sound and interior noise. http://youtu.be/8nb17h7j5JE

thanks for posting that clip. one thing I noticed is that it just doesn't sound like a boxer engine, which is a shame. I love the uneven rumble of mine so I was expecting something similar with this car. Unless the sound the this clip is way off, it doesn't have that uneven rumble at all.

Drifting and boring folk music go together like nuts and gum.

The title of this article is very misleading... in 2 ways. 1) There was barely any "sideways" even in it. By my count, about 10 seconds... from a 222 second clip. Fail. 2) This isn't "adult contemporary" ... it's garbage.

That wide open segment of sheet metal on the hood is just begging to be gashed open for a ghastly, gargantuan intake. Mark my words: Turbocharged BRZ in 18 months or less. I wish AWD would be an option so could justify it as a DD in my Northern clime, but I don`t see that happening since weight was such a huge concern from the get go.

You know what I'm not feeling...there's two of the same dam car! Couldn't subaru make their own 4wd turbo version that looks in anyway different then the toyota 86/ FR-S.

BRZ looks gorgeous! This is the best looking car to come from Subaru. I will definitely buy once aftermarket exhaust, ECU tuning, intercooler, and turbo become available. This car would be PERFECT at around 300 horses and the same torque!

its like they intentionally went out to find music that was the most opposite of what the car is about and how it looks. the car looks nice though. better off turning the sound off haha
