Ford UK is giving Focus buyers a model to tide them over until the Focus ST arrives next year. The Focus Zetec S wears a full sports suspension with stiffer springs and dampers for slightly improved handling, though there's no word on whether or not the model sits any closer to the ground than its base counterpart. A full aero kit is part of the package, as well, complete with front and rear spoilers and new side skirts. Buyers can also look forward to a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, and inside, the driver is treated to sport pedals.

The Focus Zetec S will be available with four engine options, including a range-topping 177-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. That's a far cry from the 246 horsepower available in the upcoming Focus ST, though buyers looking for a little style without any of the go may find something to smile about in the Zetec S. Hit the jump for the press release.

Brentwood, Essex, 29 November 2011– Ford introduces the sporty Zetec S to its acclaimed all-new Focus line up. Developed specifically for UK customers, Zetec S combines sporty styling with the debut of the 1.6-litre 180PS EcoBoost petrol engine.

Based on the existing Zetec model, it adds a full sports styling kit including unique front and rear spoilers with lower sill extensions and 17in alloy wheels together with sports suspension featuring stiffened springs and dampers, aluminium-style sports pedals, rear LED tail lamps and Ford Power starter button.

Anthony Ireson, Ford Britain marketing director, said: "Zetec S models have always been popular with UK customers and so we are delighted to welcome our new Focus Zetec S to the range. With sporty exterior body styling and impressive performance and economy, this latest addition is set to be another showroom hit."

The Ford Focus Zetec S is available now in five-door bodystyle with estate to follow in February 2012, and is offered with a choice of four engines including the 1.6-litre 180PS EcoBoost turbo-charged petrol engine which has a top speed of 138mph, reaches 0-62mph in just 7.9sec and emits only 139g/km CO2. Any Focus Zetec S chosen with this engine or the 1.6-litre 115PS TDCi will carry the ECOnetic Technology badge, as they benefit from auto start-stop, Ford ECO mode, gear shift indicator, active grille shutter and smart regenerative charging.

The 1.6-litre 125PS Ti-VCT petrol and the 2.0-litre 163PS TDCi are also available and can be specified with either manual or PowerShift automatic transmission.

At £18,745 on the road the Focus Zetec S is priced just £1,250 above the equivalent Zetec derivative, which represents outstanding value, as if purchased separately, the additional features would add over £1,700. The Zetec S and Titanium are identically priced so customers can choose either sport or luxury at the same price point.

Options include the technology-laden Driver Assistance Pack which has received several awards, cruise control with Active Speed Limiter and a Zetec S interior pack featuring Inferno Red partial leather, heated front seats, power driver seat, power rear windows and global closing for £800.00.

A good car just got better. Can't complain about that.

"The Focus Zetec S will be available with four engine options, including a range-topping 177-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. That's a far cry from the 246 horsepower available in the upcoming Focus ST" 177bhp is still phenomenal for a 1.6. Don't forget Autoblog, that Ford's 1.6 litre Sierra in the late 1980's churned out just 75bhp - and that's when the 90bhp of the Vauxhall Cavalier's 1.6 was considered powerful.

Obviously, the difference is it's turboed.

I should say *main* difference. On second thought, forget what I said (wish there was an edit or delete). Because 75hp out of 1.6 is less than 50hp/L, while even a naturally aspirated 1.6 nowadays can make 120hp, or 75hp/L. This would crank out 111hp/L with boost being the main factor.

I really like the Focus, but the ST version, as cool as its specs might be (even forgiving that its not AWD) looks just too much like a fish for my tastes. Ford needs to bring out a model that is like 1/2 way between the current Focus and its ~170 HP and the 246HP the the ST has, but without the terrible ST front bumper. This UK car might have been a good starting point, but they should have bumped the HP to about 200 even. Also that red-painted interior looks AWFUL. Absolutely awful. The regular black/gray interior is very nice though.

Ford of Europe have used the "Zetec" trim level for sportier versions of the Focus ever since it's debut in 1998.

I still prefer the standard front bumper, but this one looks SOOOOO much better than the gaping mouth of the ST.

I like this as an option over the base Focus. The ST will likely be pretty expensive...and this just might be best fun for the dollar for the roads we drive on every day as opposed to the track.

That's a good engine option, a turbo 1.6 making more power than the NA free breathing 2.0 we have here. Pales in comparison to soon globally available 246hp ST though.

wow, i cant believe they still use the ZETEC name, that was such a copy of V-TEC. I thought ZETEC died with the 1st gen Focus.

I like this a lot. Ford really needs to consider offering this in the states. Maybe swap the 1.6 turbo for a slightly breathed on 2.0 and keep the 6 spd manual to keep pricing manageable. The body kit looks great, especially the rear and side sills. Or even better - make this the stock look for the states, and add the 6spd for say, $21,500 ish \. Pretty please?

This should have been the Titanium here in the states with the 1.6L Turbo with the manual option. Ford, when will you hire me?
