Chrysler has issued a recall affecting a small number of 2012 Dodge Journey and 2012 Fiat 500 models built between October 24 and 26 of this year. These models – about 340 in total – are being recalled due to contaminated brake fluid that was put in during the vehicles' assembly. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles "may experience a degradation of the sealing components within the brake system."

To solve the problem, Chrysler dealers will replace all of the vehicle's components that come in contact with the hydraulic braking fluid. Of course, this service will be done free of charge, and the official safety recall is expected to begin during the month of December. Follow the jump for NHTSA's official release.

Fiat 500 contaminated by J-Lo fluid, causing the car to under-perform inexplicably.

In '70 I bought a Plymouth Valiant in St. Paul. It came with insufficient antifreeze/water ratio. No, the block didn't crack, but I lost a day of work while the car got towed, warmed up, flushed and refilled. Did I say it was a Chrysler product? You know, the same outfit with bad brake fluid? Too much of a coincidence!

"only built 340 of them" - Somehow I think Fiat has built more than 340 500s. Your claims about "their european operations arent exactly stellar" is also not correct. The 500 and the Panda sell like mad in Europe, and both models have won European Car of the Year. How is that not exactly stellar? Call me confused by your claims. I also enjoy how your comments about what Chrysler can compete on covers large portions of the automotive market. Trucks, SUVs, CUVs, etc. So in other words, Chrysler is very competitive in the market segments that are the most profitable. Aww shucks.

Lol "when" you root for domestic brands? are you kidding me? your a joke, learn your stuff before you troll because Chrysler is one of americas top auto brands and always has been. Chrysler basically invented everything we see in modern cars today, and was ripped off by other companies.

I'm all for being pro Chrysler, but your taking it too far. Chrysler has NOT always been one of America's top brands and they did not basically invent everything we in modern cars today.

All that over 340 vehicles? I'll grant you it shouldn't have been a problem initially, but we're talking about a really low number of vehicles in the grand scheme of things. Also, Chrysler has made huge improvements in their vehicles as of late. It's simply avoiding the facts to say they haven't stepped up their game like Ford and GM. Heck, you can find plenty of evidence right here on Autoblog - the most recent Dodge Journey review, the 300 review, the Jeep GC review, the T&C review, the Wrangler review, the Durango review - plenty of evidence.

you sir are an idiot (SNP). Seriously? GM and Ford have had just as many recalls if not more. wow 300 cars is sign that quality SUCKS now right? At least they caught it quick. I root for everyone, even if they have a 300 car recall. If you pay attention, Chrysler's quality is going up as well (not as fast as GM/Ford) but it takes a bit for those to go up since they are usually 3 year old studies.

Funny thing is.. Chrysler has some of the strictest requirements on supplier quality of the domestic brands.

Wow...that's an extremely expensive recall. If it was my car I would check the components extremely carefully to ensure they were ALL replaced: Master cylinder, ABS pump/control, ALL non-metal brake lines, brake proportioning valve if so equipped, calipers and/or brake cylinders. Probably over $2000 list price work.....

"...models built between October 24 and 26 of this year." Don't worry, they're still on the dealer's lot.
