Of all the major international auto shows on the calendar each year, the Bologna Motor Show may not rank among the most important. But it is vital for the Fiat Group, whose numerous brands make up more than just one lion's share of the Italian auto industry. As such, it's not a show for Fiat to take lightly, and this year, it's coming with a whole mess of new debuts.

Discounting Maserati and Ferrari (who kind of do their own thing), the Fiat Group divisions are displaying a freshly facelifted version of the Fiat Sedici, a Fiat 500 Nation Limited Edition, Lancia Ypsilon Black&Red edition and four new specials from Abarth.

2012 Fiat SediciSix years since its launch, the Sedici (Italian for Sixteen, the product of 4x4 – also known as the Suzuki SX4) has been been treated to a minor facelift. Available in three trim levels, buyers can choose between a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter four or a 135-hp 2.0 MultiJet diesel in either front-wheel drive or selectable all-wheel drive.

The Fiat 500 Nation Limited Edition will be offered in both hatchback and convertible versions, of which a suitable 500 examples of each will be offered. The American version of the hatchback is painted blue with Stars & Stripes graphics, while the cabrio comes in white with similar graphics and a red roof.

The Black&Red edition of the Lancia Ypsilon, meanwhile, is distinguished by four color choices – two reds, a black and a two-tone black and red scheme – with either 69-hp 1.2-liter gasoline engine or a 95-hp turbodiesel.

Finally, Abarth is coming to Bologna in full force with four special editions. The 595 Turismo and Competizione models pack a 160-hp version of the Abarth's 1.4-liter turbo four with two flavors of style. The 695 Assetto Corse takes 205 horsepower to the track, while the Punto Scorpione packs a 180-hp 1.4-liter four for a 7.5-second sprint to 62 mph, distinguished by matte-on-gloss black finish and a special snowboard in an edition limited to 99 examples.

An additional "by Abarth" package is also on offer for the Fiat 500 TwinAir that offers some of the visual excitement of an all-out Abarth performance model without modification to the 85-hp two-cylinder engine.

Like what you see? Check out all the images in the high-resolution galleries – one above, one below and two more after the jump – along with the plethora of press releases detailing each of these new debuts.

Fiat Sedici MY 2012

The new Fiat Sedici MY 2012 model is on display in Bologna. It is the versatile car that since its launch in 2006 until today has recorded more than 76,000 registered vehicles, proving to be the best selling compact SUV in Italy. To face up to future challenges and a segment constantly growing, the Fiat Sedici updates with the Model Year 2012, offering certain new exterior and product features, in addition to a significant enrichment of the standard equipment.

Offered in three trim levels (Dynamic, Emotion and Experience) and with two engines (120 HP 1.6 16v petrol and 135 HP 2.0 16v MultiJet diesel), the Fiat Sedici MY 2012 is available in both the version with front-wheel drive only - for those who appreciate its silhouette, space and functionality without needing the 4x4 - and the "on demand" four-wheel drive version that lets the driver decide if and when to switch from 4x2 to 4x4. The electronic traction management system automatically adjusts torque distribution over the two axles, in this way lowering fuel consumption compared to the other off-road vehicles of this class, up to a 4x4 with locked differential and torque split 50 on the rear axle.

The exterior of the Fiat Sedici MY 2012 flaunts new metallic grey door mirrors containing the direction indicators and featuring the electric folding function on all trim levels (heated mirrors starting from the Emotion version). Other new MY 2012 features include the new body shade of Rebellious Purple, painted roof rails and 16" burnished alloy wheels for the Experience trim level. The interiors have been upgraded, with the sophisticated shade of Elegant Grey making its debut on the Emotion trim level. The Experience trim level features leather upholstery as always.

Compared to the previous range, standard equipment today also includes the ESP system starting from the Dynamic trim level; window bags and MP3 player starting from the Emotion version; and for the top of the range version Experience, the new 5" touchscreen navigation system with CD/MP3 player, Bluetooth, USB connection and iPhone/iPod control.

The Fiat Sedici MY 2012 is therefore the ideal solution for a customer who is looking for a compact SUV brimming with a distinctively stylish and evergreen personality, and capable of performing well off-road as well as around town. Its small size (411 cm in length, 176 cm in width and 162 cm in height, with a 250 cm wheelbase) and the mechanical solutions adopted (such as "on demand" all-wheel drive) make the Fiat Sedici MY 2012 a versatile product able to adapt to any condition of use - whether for commuting or for leisure activities - and to any road surface thanks to a 20.0° approach angle and a height from the ground of 190 mm.

Lastly, the two Sedici MY 2012 Euro 5 engines (120 HP 1.6 16v petrol and 135 HP 2.0 16v diesel) attest to Fiat's wish to combine respect for the environment with driving pleasure, as the top of class value of 128 g/km of CO2 emissions recorded by the 135 HP 2.0 engine (4x2 drive) shows.

Fiat 500

With the prestigious 5-star Euro NCAP and 40 awards it has won internationally to date, the new car has proven since its launch in July 2007 that it is not merely a super-compact city car, but an authentic platform upon which Fiat Automobiles is building a whole family of cars with technology and attention to detail worthy of a higher category.

It is not by chance that the Fiat 500 has introduced a host of new products and achieved major records in its segment. The new products also arrived thick and fast: 500 by Diesel (September 2008), 500 Pink (June 2009), 500C (July 2009), 500C by Diesel (June 2010), 500 TwinAir (July 2010), 500 Matt Black (September 2010), two-tone 500 (December 2010), 500 and 500C by Gucci (in April and August 2011, respectively), 500 TwinAir with "byAbarth" pack (September 2011) and the brand new Nation limited edition that is being presented in its world preview precisely in Bologna.

Nation Limited Edition
With just 500 numbered units made in the saloon version and 500 in the convertible version, the new Fiat 500 Nation Limited Edition is the tribute that the brand dedicates to the great countries where the car is sold.

The first edition pays homage to the United States, celebrating the arrival of the 500 in North America and the beginning of collaboration with the American pop singer Jennifer Lopez. Besides, a cool icon of Italian style but with a marked pop soul, the Fiat 500 continues to capture attention also across the ocean both for having won over the US audience and having renewed the product placement and communications fields by making an appearance paired up with Jennifer Lopez. In fact, for the new videoclip of the "Papi" track taken from the "Love?" album (Island Def Jam), the multitalented artist wanted to drive a Fiat 500. A 30- and 60-second commercial - nothing short of a trailer of the music clip- was born after this marriage between artist and car.

In the Saloon version, the 500 Nation America Limited Edition is offered in the exclusive metallic shade America Blue and it is distinguished by mirror fairings with "Stars & Stripes" graphics, stickers, dedicated beltline and 16" alloy wheels with red cap edge. American inspiration and iconography are also found in the interiors with red/ivory seats and contrasting white dashboard.

The white three-layer paint and "Stars & Stripes" mirror fairings are combined with the red top and the graphics in the colours of the American flag in the beltline in the convertible version. In this case the elegant 16" alloy wheels are finished with a blue rim edge.

The 500 Nation is equipped as standard with manual air conditioning and is enriched with the kit complete with exterior chrome-plating in both saloon and convertible versions. Lastly, a badge on the pillar bearing the serial number of this limited edition makes this car unique.

The new 500 Nation America Limited Edition can be ordered starting from late February 2012 at the approximate price of Euro 14,500 for the saloon version and Euro 18,000 for the convertible.

Fiat TwinAir 500 and the new "byAbarth" Pack
The Fiat 500 TwinAir trim level combines the revolutionary two-cylinder engine with dedicated look and engineering contents that identify a genuine product line. In particular, the new offer is a response to the extraordinary appreciation displayed by the international press and the general public. Already today one 500 out of three sold in Europe is equipped with the TwinAir engine. The success of this engine is accompanied by the numerous awards it has won, including the "International Engine of the Year 2011".

With the 85 HP of this extraordinary engine, the 500 TwinAir guarantees maximum "fun to drive", low fuel consumption and the lowest emissions in the world for a petrol engine as well as a highly satisfying retro sound reminiscent of the first legendary 500's.

On the outside, harking back to the look of the Fiat "competition" series of the 1970s, the 500 TwinAir offers high impact details such as special burnished "antracite" trim, a "piano black" (optional) roof and matt black wheels as standard. The same highly individual touch is apparent inside, where the Total Black environment with sports seats and the burnished dashboard fascia exalt the centrality of the innovative "Blue&Me TomTom 2 LIVE", the latest development of the Blue&Me infotainment system that not only manages telephone, navigation, media player and all information required for driving by means of a colour touchscreen, but "Live" technology as well, which updates - in real time - maps, traffic conditions, local searches and weather directly on the device.

The TwinAir version extends the Fiat 500 offer by directly addressing an urban and dynamic audience. Because in addition to guaranteeing fun and maximum driving satisfaction, the 500 TwinAir offers product content with great personality and great value to customers. This concept was well conveyed also by the European advertising campaign "Everyday Fun" with a special spokesperson: Fernando Alonso, the Ferrari Formula 1 world champion.

Just to emphasize the sporty and dynamic soul of the 500 TwinAir, Fiat has also created the new "byAbarth Pack". The customisation kit, developed in close collaboration with Abarth, is characterised by the "Total Black" 16" special alloy wheels with Abarth hub caps, side skirts, rear spoiler, racing graphics on the bonnet and a sporty pedal unit. The new "Pack byAbarth" is available from November as an option combined with the Pasodoble Red and Crossover Black exterior colours.

Separate mention must be made of the 85 HP TwinAir Turbo - forerunner of a new two-cylinder engine family from Fiat Powertrain, with performance levels between 65 and 105 HP - which emphasises the fun driving qualities of this car while returning excellent performance levels, borne out by a top speed of 173 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 11 seconds. When compared with the 100 HP 1.4 engine, the 85 HP TwinAir delivers a torque increase of 25 in fuel consumption. This remarkable performance offers significant driving satisfaction and a significant reduction in fuel consumption: 4.0 l/100 km and 4.1 l/100 km in the combined cycle with a Dualogic robotised gearbox and manual gearbox respectively. It should also be noted that the Fiat 500 TwinAir boasts the best CO2 emission levels in the world for a petrol engine: 90 g/km with Dualogic robotised gearbox and 92 g/km with manual gearbox.

This is thanks to the small-sized turbine which, combined with dedicated valve management strategies, minimises transient response times and, at the same time, keeps maximum power levels high. In this way, despite its small size, the engine ensures excellent performance and an appreciable reduction in fuel consumption: compared with a 1.2 8v, the 85 HP TwinAir records a power increase of 25 reduction in fuel consumption. In fact, the performance of the twin-cylinder unit is not only equivalent to a 1.4 16v, but its fuel consumption is a remarkable 30% less.

The maximum torque (in Normal mode) of 145 Nm at 1900 rpm also guarantees performance and immediate response for a sportier drive. If you prefer to prioritise the green aspect and great fuel economy, you can always press the ECO key to limit torque to 100 Nm at 2000 rpm.
The 85 HP TwinAir unit also comes with Start&Stop as standard. This device temporarily stops the engine and restarts it, ensuring reductions in fuel consumption and noise in the passenger compartment when the device is in operation. The Gear Shift Indicator (GSI) fitted in conjunction with the Start&Stop is a veritable co-pilot that discreetly suggests to drivers when they should change gear, leading to more efficient use of the power unit in terms of fuel consumption. For example, the GSI may suggest shifting up, by means of an indication on the control panel, to allow the engine to burn a leaner mixture, i.e. one containing less fuel, or shifting down to make best use of the available torque.

Fiat "500C by Gucci"
On the wave of the remarkable interest aroused by the "500 by Gucci", Fiat and Gucci are presenting the "500C by Gucci", the convertible version as well customised by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini in collaboration with the Centro Stile Fiat.

All the exclusivity of the "500 by Gucci" - attention to detail, feeling of elegance and style - is enhanced in this new version, and made even more attractive by the innovative electric soft top for opening a "window onto the sky".

The new convertible version is available in two sophisticated body colours: white with matte chrome-plated elements and glossy black with shiny chrome-plated accents. For both, the soft top is black with the characteristic green-red-green Gucci web pattern printed lengthwise (the same graphic pattern is sported on the side of the saloon). Furthermore, the side pillars of the saloon version are maintained and with its special sliding electric top the Fiat "500C by Gucci" can be enjoyed all year round.

The exterior of the Fiat "500C by Gucci" is embellished by 16" alloy wheels characterised by the unmistakable retro design of the spokes, in perfect harmony with the exterior colours: an absolute first for cars in this category. The hub caps have a double "G" logo in matching body colour and the Gucci signature in italics is displayed on the tailgate and on the door pillar.
The passenger compartment of the Fiat 500 by Gucci also brims with style: stylish stitching, exclusive materials, satin and polished chrome-plated elements, a velvet-effect finish on the radio panel and two-tone Frau leather seats with Guccissima print. The "Gucci" web theme also appears on the seats, gearbox, key cover, mats and, with an innovative finish, on the seat belts.

Fiat "500C by Gucci" is come complete with a great deal of standard equipment: automatic climate control system, seven airbags (front, side, window and knee), Blue&Me system integrated with rear parking sensors, car radio with CD-MP3 player and leather steering wheel with radio controls.

An original "500C by Gucci" tour took off in August. It made stops in several of Europe's most glamorous cities: Saint Tropez, Forte dei Marmi, Rome, Berlin, Florence, Barcelona, Milan, London and Geneva. A striking crystal cube with elegant shiny black lacquered bottom and top was set up for each stage of the tour. Inside, set like a precious jewel, an example of the exclusive cabriolet is on show. At night, the installation light up creating a suggestive atmosphere that further enhance the elegant car and the prestigious location. The stage is completed by three small showcases displaying some of the articles in the "500 by Gucci" collection, which comprises travel accessories, small leather goods, track suits, bomber jackets, driving gloves, eyewear and a watch.

Like the saloon version before, an original advertising campaign has been created for the Fiat "500C by Gucci" in which the car features next to model Natasha Poly. The selected Fiat dealerships that is displaying the "500C by Gucci" will receive copies of an exclusive lifestyle brochure created as a fashion catalogue and designed to bring out the class and one-of-a-kind nature of this extraordinary interpretation of the glamorous world of 500 in artistic photographs.

New Ypsilon Black&Red, the alternative to monotony

The new Black&Red version of Lancia Ypsilon, available with the 69 HP 1.2 Fire EVO II and the turbodiesel 95 HP 1.3 MultiJet II engines, debuts at the Bologna Motor Show. Offered at the same price as the Gold trim level, the new trim level is designed as an alternative for a younger and male target that prefers contents associated with sporty style and audio technology.

The team at the Lancia Style Centre has paid special attention to the Ypsilon Black&Red's refined colour scheme, starting with the four body colours available: Argilla Red, Vulcano Black, three-layer Fiamma Red and the two-tone Argilla Red with Vulcano Black roof. In line with the exteriors, the new version offers only one youthful and lively interior where the alternating red and black elements for seats, dashboard and door panels stand out. So the latest "mini flagship" trim level confirms that colour for the Ypsilon model is not just a matter of good looks, but an integral part of a product philosophy which has among its constituent elements, elegance, glamour, personality, fun, creativity, style and the greatest possibility for customisation.

In detail, the Ypsilon Black&Red offers standard manual climate control, 360° Hi-Fi Music system, 15" alloy rims, privacy windows, radio and CD/MP3 player, door opening remote control, height-adjustable steering wheel, electric front windows, 50/50 split rear seat and height-adjustable driver seat. In terms of safety, ABS + EBD, ESC (Electronic Stability Control) complete with ASR and Hill Holder, front and side airbags, and Isofix attachments are offered as standard.

So if the Ypsilon Black&Red is an added plus for a young customer, the Gold trim level continues to be the ideal solution for more mature customers that require more contents associated with comfort, personalisation and special attention to details, as the Comfort Pack, steering wheel and leather-trimmed gear-lever gaiter, electric door mirrors and the refined Castiglio upholstery demonstrate.

Finally, the debut of the Ypsilon Black&Red is accompanied by an original communication campaign on various BTL media. In particular, the poster of the "I'll leave the boredom to you" concept will be made. It shows colourless objects and situations without liveliness, with the final invitation to break away from monotony and choose the Ypsilon Black&Red that by definition and in terms of content is not monochrome/monotonous.

The model in brief
The new Lancia Ypsilon is a "mini flagship" - which packs the best of Italian style, innovation and eco-friendliness into just 3.84 metres. For the first time it is offered in a 5-door version designed to offer even greater convenience and comfort to devotees of Lancia charm, technological excellence and unique style.

At the heart of the Ypsilon's design is an original approach to the "premium" car concept that redefines the meaning of the word "elegance" that as it is freed of excesses and superfluous elements, becomes pure essence. The result is a car that seduces those who seek originality and character, those who love technology and elegance, and those who admire quality and innovation.

The new Ypsilon, which will be on the market from June across key European markets and from September in Great Britain and Ireland with the Chrysler brand, is the fourth series of the successful model - over one and a half million vehicles currently on the road - born in 1985 when the Y10 debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a miniature flagship with style and content features never seen before on an economy car of the day, marking that pioneering spirit that was to accompany the model until today. It was the Lancia Y's turn in 1996: elegant, elite, with a strong personality that reinforced the concept of "customized luxury". And so to 2003 when the third generation, the Lancia Ypsilon, brought to the world of city-cars the technology and "class" till then exclusively reserved for models in higher segments.

Now the baton is taken up by the new Ypsilon, which confirms it is the "Fashion City-Car" par excellence that continues to charm with its personality, sophisticated style and unconventional class, but it has become more grown up and mature, with a wider appeal. And below this polished exterior bearing the prestigious "Made in Italy" label lies all the substance of a car that boasts cutting-edge technology applied to engines as recently confirmed by the four awards given to the TwinAir engine in the "International Engine of the Year" competition. This innovative engine surpassed the competition in all the categories where it competed, and it took the "International Engine of the Year 2011" title. In addition to the TwinAir, the engineering excellence of the new Ypsilon continues with the MultiJet II and Start&Stop "eco-friendly" systems and the unique features in this category that include the brand-new "Blue&Me-TomTom LIVE" and "Smart fuel system", in addition to the innovative second-generation Magic Parking, Bi-Xenon headlights and LED taillights.

A refined and innovative Italian "5-door" with the look typical of a "3-door", the new Ypsilon is a very compact car, so much so that it remains in segment "B" but with high standards of roominess and comfort: although just 384 cm long, 167 cm wide and 152 cm high, with a wheelbase of 239 cm, the New Ypsilon can accommodate up to five people and in relation to its size, has one of the most spacious boots in its segment and is one of the best in class in terms of passenger room. Without increasing the size of the rear passenger area, excellent accessibility and comfort have been achieved with the use of "slim seats", a technology used here for the first time by Fiat Group Automobiles.

In this way the New Ypsilon continues its domination of the key city-car category in response both to recent market trends where the "5-door" market represents two-thirds of segment B, and to the needs of a broader target than that reached until now, including young men and young families. It is precisely regarding the quality, comfort and usability of the interiors that the new car is determined to make all the difference. Hop inside and you become aware of the refined materials and colour combinations, the attention to detail and the numerous options for customization.

The range includes more than 600 customisations generated by the combination of 3 trim levels (Silver, Gold, Black&Red and Platinum), all built to offer the customer a high product value, 16 elegant colour schemes of which 4 are two-tone, 6 different upholstery trims, 3 types of alloy wheels and 3 engines: 2 petrol (69 HP 1.2 Fire EVO II and 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir, the latter also with DFN semi-automatic gearbox), a turbodiesel (95 HP 1.3 MultiJet II), all equipped with Start&Stop technology as standard. Starting this month the 1.2 Fire EVO II bi-fuel engine (petrol and LPG) is also available. Note that a wealth of equipment in the field of safety is standard on the entire range: electronic stability control complete with ASR and Hill Holder, ABS with EBD, from 4 to 6 airbags (front, window bags and side bags), in addition to Isofix attachments.

Therefore, the new car represents an evolution of the Ypsilon model in terms of technology, safety, comfort and usability, but even so it preserves its positioning of elegant and high-quality car offered at an accessible price.

In detail, the Silver trim level provides door opening remote control, height adjustable steering wheel, electric front windows, 50/50 split rear seat, height-adjustable driver seat, 15" steel wheels, interiors in technical fabric with fitted electro-welded seams, radio set-up and rear heated window. In terms of safety, ABS + EBD, ESC complete with ASR and Hill Holder, front and side airbags, and Isofix attachments are offered as standard (depending on the markets and versions). In addition to this great quantity of equipment, the Gold version adds: manual climate control, radio with CD and MP3 player, electrically adjustable door mirrors, steering wheel and leather-trimmed gear-lever gaiter, Castiglio upholstery and Comfort Pack. Besides the Gold trim level, today the customer can choose the Ypsilon Black&Red that differs owing to its 15" alloy rims, 360° Hi-Fi Music system and privacy windows. Finally, the Platinum trim level offers the added rear electric windows, fog lights, 15" alloy wheels, rear seat head restraints and leather upholstery.

In addition, for those eager to customize their Ypsilon and make it truly exclusive, an extensive range of fine, top quality accessories is available. Not only do the accessories offer great style and meticulous attention to detail, but they also go beautifully with the car, in line with the unmistakable Lancia style and in full compliance with technical, stylistic and mechanical characteristics of the new car. From exclusive 16" alloy wheels, side skirts and tinted headlights to a black kickplate with illuminated logo, a "Blue&Me-TomTom LIVE" navigator and the Accessories Packs.

Abarth 595 "turismo" and Abarth 595 "competizione"

The new Abarth 595 is making its world premier in Bologna. This model ratifies the return to the concept of "deriving" standard models on which Karl Abarth built the Scorpion legend more than 60 years ago. With this new model the brand further expands the Abarth 500 range and is arriving with two customisations, "turismo" and "competizione". They address two different targets - the first more attentive to personality and comfort and the second more "racing purist" - but they both have one fundamental aspect in common: passion for the sportiness that distinguishes all Abarth models.

In both customisations the car is fitted with a 1.4 Turbo T-Jet engines whose power has been increased to a good 160 HP (118 kW) with the use of the standard engine customisation kit. The engine is a 1368 cm3 4 cylinder 16 valve unit (turbocharged with a fixed-geometry IHI turbocharger) that delivers exhilarating performance. Torque is 230 Nm at 3000 rpm in Sport mode. Top speed is 211 km/h while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes place in just 7.4 seconds. This is partly achieved by the over boost function, activated by the "Sport" button that modulates control unit mapping and turbo pressure in addition to load on the steering wheel. Yet this typically Abarth performance comes with very frugal fuel consumption: 6.5 l/100 km over a combined cycle.

In terms of safety, the Abarth 595 follows the top standards the Abarth 500 guarantees. As on all the other Abarths, it offers standard the TTC (Torque Transfer Control) device that by improving the transfer of drive torque to the wheels, enhances the car road holding without compromising the fun to drive it. The car is equipped as standard with Xenon headlights with dipped and main beam functions for improved light emission and excellent efficiency under all weather conditions. These elements deliver three times the light intensity and duration of standard halogen lamp headlights.

The car is offered in two different customisations. With the "turismo" styling, the Abarth 595 is designed for everyone who loves sportiness and performance, and at the same time wants elegance and personality. Abarth is bringing back a few trend-setting elements with this customisation that have already in the past distinguished another highly successful car, the Abarth 500 Convertible. First and foremost is the two-tone livery which is being presented for the first time on a saloon. The car on display at the stand in Bologna flaunts a two-tone metallic Rosso Officina and Grigio Pista livery with white liner. It is embellished with the revival of the historic 595 logo in aluminium on the side panel and tailgate, the latter further personalised with the aluminium Turismo graphics. Gran Turismo inspired titanium-coloured 17" alloy wheels contribute to the car's elegance. The Abarth 595 "turismo" offers as standard the electrically-operated manual Competizione gearbox with controls on the steering wheel, which exalts engine performance by reducing gearshift times. The gearshift paddles are placed on the sporty black leather steering wheel with perforated ears, which enhances the interiors together with the red leather sports seats. The attention to detail that makes this customisation of the Abarth 595 unique is also emphasised by the special "flocking" treatment for the central tunnel and dashboard. It is the first time a state-of-the-art treatment in the fashion and design industry is applied to the automotive field. Pedal unit, kick plate and gearbox trim in the costly Alutex aluminium glass fibre material complete the standard equipment.

The second customisation, "competizione", is dedicated to the more extreme sports enthusiasts, to the true "racing purists", and is distinguished by elements that exalt its performance and sports car features to the utmost. The first element on the Abarth 595 "Competizione" is the 5-speed MT (Manual Transmission) gearbox that exalts personal driving style through a more direct relationship with the car. The metallic Grigio Record livery is completed with 17" titanium-coloured alloy wheels whose design is borrowed from Racing, with yellow Brembo brake calipers. Like for the "turismo" version, the side panel and tailgate are respectively embellished with the 595 and 595 "competizione" logo, both in aluminium.

The interiors also have a sporty and aggressive personality thanks to the "Abarth Corsa by Sabelt" leather and natural leather-coloured alcantara seats bearing the 595 logo embroidered on the integrated headrest. Special materials have been used to enhance the dashboard. Their appearance and finish call metal to mind to further accentuate the technical and sporty personality of this customisation. The same treatment is adopted for the backrest of the seats. Lastly, the gear lever knob made of Ergal, kick plate, pedal unit and aluminium running board - all decorated with the Abarth motifs - draw on the outfitting found on racing cars. Completing the characterisation are side bands in the shade of matte titanium, also applied on the door mirror fairings.

To exalt the performance of the Abarth 595 even more, customisation kits for setup and brakes are available for both versions. They guarantee a unique driving experience in terms of performance, handling and safety. Safety is always the focus with an Abarth tuning, and with these two kits the braking system is strengthened and the ride is adjusted. The first fits perforated, self-ventilated front disc brakes (diameter 284 mm x 22 mm), perforated rear disc brakes (diameter 240 mm x 11 mm), and high performance front brake pads, whereas the second provides front and rear Koni shock absorbers with FSD valve, and specific red springs set lower than those on the original car.

To further confirm the search for the maximum level of customisation of the Abarth 595, and following the successful example already tried out on the "Abarth 500 Cabrio Italia" Limited Edition, the special Tramontano leather bags "Tribute to Abarth" are available. They are also in the "turismo" and "competizione" versions, matching the interior shade of the two customisations. These bags will become available in all the shades of leather used for Abarth 500 interiors starting in December.

Abarth 695 "Assetto Corse"

Designed for track racing, the Abarth 695 "Assetto Corse" conceptually depicts the continuity of the historic 695 brand that came into being in 2009 with the 695 Tributo Ferrari. This year it is represented by the Abarth 695 "Competizione", the first Abarth street legal race car presented at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

The car also appears as the evolution of the Abarth 500 "Assetto Corse", the "small and mean" protagonist of huge successes during the past three years of single-make trophies. The Abarth 695 "Assetto Corse" is characterised by an aggressive front decorated with a badge bearing the Abarth logo and, underneath, a broader bumper complete with aerodynamic spoiler and screen-printed grilles instead of the plastic masks of the standard version. Under the bonnet, fitted out with the classic bonnet clips in true racing style, we find the 1368 cm3 turbocharged engine that delivers 205 HP of power. The rear of the car features a winged spoiler, a badge bearing the Abarth logo and a twin exhaust pipe.

The wheel assemblies complete with 17" light alloy racing wheels are enriched with new floating, perforated and self-ventilated front disc brakes and perforated rear disc brakes, which with the help of a new brake governor further increase performance on the track.

But the true innovation of this new version is the Sadev sequential gearbox with a specific ratio that when combined with a metal-ceramic twin plate clutch reaches absolutely top performance in its category.

On the inside the Abarth 695 "Assetto Corse" contains all of the safety equipment required by FIA regulations, including a roll-bar welded to the body that has been further optimised to improve its torsional stiffness. To make it even lighter - the car weighs about 30 kg less than the previous 500 "Assetto Corse" - the doors have been lightened by using Lexan for the side windows. The driver's seat, with specific racing seat and steering wheel, and digital display complete the Abarth 695 "Assetto Corse", which proves to be a true competition car that is small but aggressive, just like the 500 "Assetto Corse".

Abarth Punto scorpione

Adrenaline, the gusto of pitting oneself against any kind of challenge, the never-ending search for speed and performance both on the track and facing a downhill race. These are the reasons that led Abarth and Nitro to join forces and work together, the first result of which is the "Nitro powered by Abarth" snowboard.

It is by drawing inspiration from the same shared values that Abarth is presenting a new Limited Edition in Bologna, the new Abarth Punto scorpione. Ninety-nine cars have been made, all distinguished by a two-tone Nero Scorpione livery enhanced by a special matte black paintwork for the bonnet and roof. The exterior of the car is enriched by special glossy black graphics for roof and bonnet. They ideally reproduce the bottom of the "Nitro Powered by Abarth" snowboard and are achieved with a hand-crafted polishing treatment right at the Abarth&C. factory to achieve a perfect tailor-made customisation.

Powered by a 1.4 MultiAir engine that develops 180 HP (132 kW) at 5750 rpm and with 270 Nm of maximum torque at 2500 rpm, the Abarth Punto scorpione reaches a top speed of more than 216 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds.

Further contributions to performance come from the modified suspension and safety, as well as the adoption of floating, perforated and self-ventilated front disc brakes with oversized four-piston yellow brake calipers, perforated rear disc brakes, high performance front brake pads, front and rear Koni shock absorbers with FSD (Frequency Selective Dumping) valve and specially lowered springs. The exhaust pipe oversized in the centre segment is also taken from the by now famous "Esseesse" kit.

Inside, this special Abarth Punto scorpione features "Abarth Corsa by Sabelt" black leather seats, with red and yellow stitchings and matte black backrest, homologated and lightened in keeping with the car's racing spirit. Enriching the interiors are the laser-treated aluminium kick plate with special graphics, the stainless steel pedals with Abarth brand, and the leather steering wheel with double red and yellow stitching, just like the seats and the sporty Jaeger driving instruments.

Accompanying this new Limited Edition is the "Abarth Nitro" winter kit, designed for lovers of speed and the most daring riders, and for snowboard and mountain buffs in magical snow-covered places marked by slopes, cliffs and fresh snow. The "Abarth Nitro" winter kit contains 17" alloy wheels complete with winter tyres, a snowboard rack with magnetic fastening and a snowboard of the "Nitro powered by Abarth" line. The Abarth Team Series snowboard features a perfect poplar core to ensure strength and stability. The wood in fact guarantees flexibility, which cushions blows and the harder landings, even on uneven terrains. Speed, power, precision when turning, suppleness and lightness are the qualities that all snowboards should have. Nitro Abarth Team Series snowboards feature not only bi-lite laminates, dual degressive sidecuts and tip profiles, but also have a special Iso Nano Highspeed surface. This material has been specially researched for this snowboard to guarantee its incredible speed and long life. An Action Camera completes the kit to catch the most highly adrenaline-charged moments behind the wheel and the top performances with the "Nitro powered by Abarth" snowboard. The "Abarth Nitro" winter kit is also available for the Abarth Punto and the Abarth 500, with 16" steel wheels in the latter case.

There's more than a reason if there are so many small cars on european roads, it's because of space. There's less here, You would laugh at a pick up truck on these roads, in these cities. It would just look clumsy, like a bus. Small cars let you zip through traffic, and make finding parking space a lot easier. Also it's not so common over here to associate the size of your genitals with the size of your car, so even males can drive small cars without psychological consequences. About quality issues, well it's kind of a stereotype, just like certain other carmakers benefit from a better reputation that's not still true with their current models. Over here if you're buying a 500 or a Mini or a Smart, it's not just because you need a small car, but it's also because you like to have a small car with a bit of personality, not just a small bland box on wheels. And Jap cars, for as good as they can be, they're a bit bland and boring. As for the bi-colour variants of the Abarth, I've seen a couple over here and I thought they looked great.

        @Giorgio
@Giorgio, I get your point having visited Europe many times seeing that small cars are very popular because of the narrow roads and expensive gas. Here in North America where gas is cheap and the roads are wide and straight and , well you get what I'm getting at.

It's amazing that they are giving a snowboard with a Punto Scorpione. I guess it's either a kids model or they throw a roof rack in the package. Because i can tell you for a fact, you CAN NOT fit a 167 cm snowboard in a (Grande, same chassis) Punto.

This is Autoblog, not a site for pondering your questionable genetic lineage. Would love to have that 695 Asseto Corso out on an autocross track. It would just be a terror.
