At nearly every motorsports event we attend, there are usually strict rules about where photographers can be located. Generally, those spots are taken from behind multiple layers of gravel traps, concrete walls and catch fences. That's not the case for the Baja 1000. Race fans and photographers are allowed to pretty much go wherever they want, even if that means putting themselves in a dangerous position.

That's the case for this insane spectator at this weekend's Baja 1000. He decided the ideal vantage point to take a photo was from the actual race course. Despite the crowds around urging him to do otherwise, he sticks to his guns, even as a truck flies inches over his head. Check out the incredible footage after the jump.

Agreed. And very selfish of that prick. Just think of what the dirvers must see as they're coming down the road and trying to concentrate on racing.....some moron with a camera in the middle of the racetrack. I'm sure the guy got a shot but out of respect for the drivers and of what they're doing he should keep his stupid a$$ off the track.

Two words: Joaquim Santos. This guy is an idiot, putting himself, the other spectators, and drivers at serious risk.

Though I'd say this... If he wanted to get such a shot, why not just set up a small hidden camera at that spot where he's at before the race, and then take pictures from a remote distance. They have the technology!

I thought this was going to be an opportunity to weed out the gene pool. Sadly no.

Did he actually flip off the driver who tried to avoid killing him??

Never underestimate the male stupid gene, which is behavioral. And before I get jumped, women have one as well - it's emotional. For perfect examples of both, watch Judge Judy any day of the week.

After almost getting himself flattened when the second buggy has to stop to avoid him by INCHES, does he think, "Wow, this is more dangerous than I thought."? No. He flips off the driver! What a complete moron, all testosterone (and probably alcohol), no brain cells. I wish he had gotten his legs broken and had to live with that for a few months, but he probably still wouldn't learn anything... and would have blamed the driver. If I were the driver of that second car, and I didn't have a lead to defend, we would have had more than words. I think getting out and stomping him further into that ditch for a few seconds would have been appropriate.
