The Motor Press Guild has named the 2012 Audi A7 as the its first-ever Car Of The Year. MPG calls itself the largest automotive media association in the United States, and says that the the A7 was chosen as the first recipient of the organization's Car Of The Year award because of its styling, handling and slew of advanced technologies.

MPG says that the A7 faced some stiff competition from four other finalists chosen by a panel of members. The entire MPG membership then evaluated and ranked those vehicles at the organization's track day in October.

Motor Press Guild President Laura Burstein will present Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen with the Car Of The Year award at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.

Of course, the MPG wasn't the only organization to honor the A7. Automobile Magazine recently named the high-end hatchback its Car of the Year as well. Hit the jump for the MPG press release.

Audi A7 Named Motor Press Guild Vehicle of the Year
-- MPG President to Present Award During Audi's Official Press Conference at L.A. Auto Show --

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Motor Press Guild (MPG), the largest automotive media association in North America, today announced the all-new 2012 Audi A7 as the winner of the first-ever Motor Press Guild Vehicle of the Year (VOTY) Award. MPG President Laura Burstein will present the award to Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen at Audi's press conference on the first day of the Los Angeles Auto Show press days on Nov. 16, 2011.

"It was a close battle, but the 2012 Audi A7 edged out the competition with its compelling combination of handsome styling, dynamic handling and advanced in-car technology. In this highly competitive market, it's hard to be a standout, but Audi did it with the A7. Likewise, we congratulate all of our finalists on bringing good-looking, quality vehicles to the market that are fun to drive," said Laura Burstein, President, Motor Press Guild.

"The A7 is the epitome of high style and artistry, with a five-door coupe design that is both sporty and elegant. Response to the launch of the A7 this year has been outstanding. We're proud to be selected by Motor Press Guild as the recipient of their first-ever Vehicle of the Year award," said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America.

The 2012 Audi A7 was one of five finalists chosen over a two-month period by a select panel of MPG journalist members who test and review cars on a regular basis. The final five vehicles were evaluated and ranked by the entire journalist membership at MPG's Track Day event on Oct. 11-12, 2011. Vehicles were rated in the categories of safety, quality, value, performance/handling, design/style, environmental/green impact and technology/innovation. In addition, journalists were encouraged to consider models that reflect the unique style of Southern California. Vehicles were required to be all-new or substantially changed from the previous year's model and available at dealerships on or before Jan. 1, 2012. Other 2011 VOTY finalists (in alphabetical order) are the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, 2012 Fiat 500, 2012 Ford Focus and the 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

I dont really like the A7 to be honest. It looks odd and IMO the RS4 and S8 with the V10 remain the best looking Audis ever IMO

Good looking car. Have yo noticed that Audi's always look more striking in person than they do in pictures?? Anyway this might be my wife's new ride especially now that they've retrofitted the back seat to allow three across.

Ohhhhh... see, I don't peruse Autoblog that much, now it all makes sense: A bunch Euro-loving haters read this site, hence all the hateful comments towards anything not European. I get it now. I was wondering why there was so much hate directed at Asian cars in the other articles. Well... as an owner of 2005 Benz C-class... I can't really complain. Its built like at tank... its the little things that suck about it. But whatever. I probably won't buy European again though.

What? It's not safe? Is safety ugly? Why thank audi? We need an edit function (and a delete button).

I love this car. I'm sure I'll get a little hate but doesn't the a7 look like a boxy unattractive tesla modelS? The fastback/hatch 4-door coupe etc. Unattractive relative to the modelS. The details are high-end inside and out. That's why audi wins awards like this. GM had a cool motorcycle like look to the sonic vs. audi pioneering a whole new way of laminating wood for it's interior. One is a superior effort over the other even when accounting for cost. It innovated a lot this year, with things in that car/wifi hotspot. If you don't like it don't hate.

Yeah, I think this is a great looking car. I can't wait to see what GM does with the ATS. I think it's going to be a big step forward for them in both interior and exterior styling. In my book, styling wise Audi trumps BMW and Mercedes. In fact I have absolutely no love for Mercedes products. Audi>BMW>Mercedes
