Toyota just launched a new iPhone app that lets users position computer-generated renderings of the upcoming FT-86 sports car against real-world backdrops and then share them with other users. Judging from the video Toyota released to promote the app, Instagram shouldn't feel threatened; the renderings aren't exactly stellar, and the novelty of positioning a CGI FT-86 on your iPhone screen is likely to wear off quickly. Fortunately, the app is free. Just remember, kids, you get what you pay for.

Ho. Ly. Crap. I think this thing is giving the Camaro and Volt a run for their money when it comes to being the brand's favorite car to sell that they don't make for years before production. It's past needing a midcycle refresh in time for production, it already needs a new generation!

The Volt didn't take any longer than a normal new model development. The only difference is that GM was talking about the Volt from the instant the program was given the "go." The vast majority of the time, the first we see of a new vehicle is when the first working prototypes start driving around.

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here when I say that Toyota's teases start to get on my nerve. Some people want it bad (I'm not one of 'em), others will move onto something else because Toyota's antics are really starting to get old. Who gives a f!@# about this app? Release that damn thing or shut up !

I'm beginning to dislike this car for dragging it so long... So, is it going to be called-FT-86 or FR-S? Is it sold by Toyota or Scion? And what's the big deal about this car that is taking a manufacture like Toyota so long to get it out. Just a 2.0 liter N/A four banger. It's not like another LFA! Just saw a video of the car running in Germany and it didn't sound it had a bark.

i bet that took 8 months and 42 Japanese guys in suits to come up with that idea - they're all smiling at how good it came out because they were able to incorporate a hip "iphone app" into their marketing promo's.
