The limited edition Peugeot 508 RXH diesel-electric hybrid has been officially unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Only 30 of the limited edition, through-the-road hybrids will be built, so scoring one may prove incredibly difficult. Peugeot says the limited edition wagons will be sold first-come, first served and the automaker has targeted March of 2012 for the first deliveries.

Priced at £36,000 ($56,912 U.S. at the current exchange rate, but inclusive of the UK's sizeable Value Added Tax), Peugeot says the limited edition 508 RXH features Copper metallic paint, leather and alcantara upholstery, xenon headlamps, heated seats, a hi-fidelity JBL stereo and distinctive 18-inch alloy wheels.

Featuring four-wheel drive thanks to Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology, all 508 RXH wagons come packing the automaker's 2.0-liter HDi diesel engine along with a 28-kilowatt (38-horsepower) electric motor. This system, identical to the one found in Peugeot's 3008 Hybrid4, makes the 508 RXH a so-called "through-the-road" hybrid vehicle, where the two powertrains each move an axle independently. Combined, the diesel-electric hybrid drive unit delivers up to 147 kW (200 horsepower) and cranks out 332 pound-feet of torque.

If you don't fancy a copper-colored CUV, non-limited edition 508 RXH wagons will go on sale in spring of 2012.

The Diesel-electric hybrid powertrain is a hybridisation of the 2.0-litre HDi FAP diesel engine developing 163bhp driving the front wheels and a 37bhp electric motor driving the rear axle, to produce a new level of driving experience, combining:

A total combined output of 200bhp
ZEV – Zero Emissions Vehicle mode for silent running
Four-wheel drive – with grip to all four wheels
CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km with economy at 67MPG

Key features of the 508 RXH Limited Edition include Copper metallic paintwork, Lama leather and Alcantara upholstery, Peugeot Open & Go system, Xenon headlamps, motorised tailgate and electric powered, heated and memory position seats. It also features front parking aid, automatic quad-zone air conditioning, JBL Hi-Fi and distinctive Attila 18" alloy wheels with every car carrying an individually numbered plaque.

The 508 RXH Limited Edition will be the first models delivered in March 2012, priced at £36,000 (on the road).

The 508 RXH has a road presence and specific design that immediately places it in the environment of 'top-level' all road vehicles. Unique, refined, higher and wider, it is also distinguished by a singular visual identity, characterised by its distinctive LED daytime running lights that give an impression of having three vertical 'lion claws' on each side of its 'floating' grille, the style of which is all the more striking.

To reinforce its exclusive character, the interior of the 508 RXH benefits from the use of luxurious materials, coherent with the 'top-of-the-range' and technological positioning of the vehicle. Richly equipped as standard with electric front seats, head up display, panoramic glass roof, dark-tinted acoustic laminated side windows, head up display, latest generation audio and satellite navigation RXH welcomes its occupants with care, refinement and a high level of comfort features.

Equipped with the 2.0-litre HDi FAP HYbrid4 powertrain, a world first when featured in the 3008 HYbrid4, the diesel-electric hybrid in the 508 RXH extends driving freedom and pleasure to traverse all roads. With a maximum power of 200bhp, four-wheel drive and a maximum torque of 450Nm, the 508 RXH has been designed to adapt to a wide spectrum of conditions. With a 40 mm wider track and its height increased by 50mm, this new Peugeot has an individual stance, without sacrificing the characteristics of the 508 range - poise, elegance and status.
