For the most part, Kia has had to content itself with working class iron while it has watched its corporate sibling, Hyundai, spread its wings upmarket. With massive sales momentum and big upticks in everything from styling cohesion to consumer consideration, now might just be the right time for the Korean automaker to start its own push into the land of loftier price tags.

The Kia GT Concept just revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show presages a new rear-wheel drive production platform, though we're guessing the final product won't look much like this coupe-like four-door. Motivated by a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 giving 389 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque, power for GT is routed through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

While the Kia GT has its share of interesting details (contrasting rocker panel swoosh, fender-mounted rearview camera stanchions, Aston Martin-like front canards etc.), we're still on the fence about what we think of the visuals.

The interior is somewhat less controversial, with beautiful organic forms, one-piece seats that are covered in different materials front and back, and a unique glass instrument panel. Check it all out in our high-res gallery and let us know what you think in Comments.

      Slightly redefine front-end to look more like Optima/Forte, slap in a Turbo 4 or NA V6 (ala Genesis) and put this baby into production.

      God, that is so incredibly sexy. It's what an Aston would look like if they stopped using a photocopier to design all their cars (One-77 excepted).

        It's called it being at the Frankfurt Auto Show. This usually happens during the press days of an auto show on AB. God I was hoping you would have gone away for good. But alas, AB commenters will still have to deal with your trolling.

      So Kia is building it's own GTR now? I can't wait for this to get spanked by good old fashioned American muscle. MY SUPERCHARGED SRT8 could deliver the kill I'll bet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj2qrQRjLTs

        @black republican
        Looking at the engine specs it says 3.3 turbo V6 with 390 hp and 394 lb-ft. This would be comparable to the Dodge Charger with the 368 hp 391 lb-ft 5.7 Hemi V8. Also when you think about it the Audi A7 has a 310 hp 3.0 supercharged V6, the Infiniti M37 has a 330 hp 3.7 V6, the BMW 535i has a 300 hp 3.0 turbo I6. Stop hatin.

          Except he doesn't have a 5.7, he either has the 6.1 or 6.4. I think you're underestimating how fun the SRT8s are.
