With the flurry of hype surrounding the launch of Spotify in the U.S., it was just a matter of time before the streaming music provider partnered with an automaker. And today is that day. Well... Sort of.

The Spotify crew is working with the SYNC API at today's TechCrunch Disrupt Hack-a-Thon to integrate with the AppLink system. It's not an official partnership, but it is the first step in bringing the service into the car.

Still waiting on Ford to send out update for 2011 Fusions and other models so I can use applink with my sync system... I stream bluetooth already, but, I'd get a lot more excited about spotify if all the previously sold sync equiped cars could do it. I bought my 2011 just a few weeks before 2012's came out and I'd love to have applink...

Jeez, whiners... So a music subscription company announces they're planning on integrating their service with an automaker and you guys want to immediately whine about the details (or lack there of). Count me as one person who welcomes an automaker who understands some of the general public wants to integrate their vehicle with a music subscription service other than Sirius - something some of us are already paying for because we like their service.

Oh, joy. Yet another distraction for already-distracted drivers. Thanks so much, Ford! :)

Tell me something... How is this ANY different than the radio stations that have been around since the invention of the radio?

Spotify sux. Can't tell you how long I've puzzled over getting it to work on my PC. Pass on that option.

Hehe. It's funny how they "accidentally" break their service in such a way that only ad-based users can't use it from time to time, then they apologize for that and it happens again a week later.

I don't think Spotify sux. I've used the premium version for the past month, and have been happy with the service... and then I discovered MOG, in the 7-day trial service on both my PC/Mac and iPad/Android phones, and I prefer MOG over Spotify. I'll cancel Spotify and move my $10/month to MOG. I wished that all the OEMs would give us choice of subscriptions... Spotify, MOG, Rdio, Napster, Pandora, etc... not just focus on one subscription.

Very interesting. Imho, Spotify is the best thing since the mp3. If only I could get the commercial to stop pausing when I try to lower the volume.
