Lotus is getting ready to put on a show in Frankfurt, and the automaker has released a teaser video to provide some insight into its auto show plans. Apparently Lotus has hired a David Lynch wannabe to direct it's latest video, because we're not exactly sure what's going on here. We don't even know if Lotus knows what's happening in the video.

We do know that the video shows a boxer preparing for a match with a car. The vehicle in question appears to be either a new Elise, the next-generation Exige or even the Evora GTE Road Car. It's hard to tell from the clip, which you can watch for yourself after the jump.

We've watched it now a few times now, and we're still a bit confused. It's clear that Lotus is ready for a fight, however, and we're excited to see what it has in store for the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Definitely the next Exige. There's a frame in there that shows the nose pretty well. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6204/6130645280_99ce33c213_z.jpg http://www.autoblog.com/2011/08/30/next-gen-lotus-exige-comes-into-focus/

I have downloaded the video from YouTube and put it through a frame by frame in Moviemaker. I have zipped the five screenshots from the middle section that actually show something of the car albeit blurry. In case your interested I've uploaded the small file (less then 0,5 Mb) for whomever wants a closer look. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=59838GDT Unfortunatly Lotus cars are so much 'alike' that I still can't make much of it. Even the license plate is clearly readable in the screenshots but it doesn't hint to anything. Haven't tried actually looking it up in the UK DMV or something though.

This seems to be a literal and metaphorical [lightweight] Lotus vs. the heavyweight [boxer]. Or, if you're a Porschephile you might see this as Lotus trying to take on the boxer [flat 6] of Porsche... or not. There's some compelling cinematography but not much substance so it looks like we'll be waiting til Frankfurt for more info.

I say a new Exige with a 300HP Subaru STi Boxer engine for lightweight and low center of gravity.

Honestly could care less about lotus marketing or ambiguous video teasers. Its all about their cars for me, I'll pass judgement once I see something on the showroom and be able to take for a spin. If you know lotus history and pedigree, I imagine you could care less about what opinions on their media exposure. These arent ferraris or porsches that need to play to demographics to sell to male insecurities and prestige collectors. These are cars that provide exhilaration on the track, and thats where they will earn their pass/fail grade.

Teasing the upcoming V6 Exige, but this teaser ad is supremely lame.
