Electric vehicles aren't a common sight in most U.S. cities. Understandably, then, for most consumers, EVs remain a far-off vision of the future. Startup Coda Automotive realizes this dilemma and is attempting to make electric vehicles more accessible to Average Jane and Joe Sixpacks with the opening of its first down-to-earth Experience Center in ... a shopping mall.

The center, which opened just days ago at the Westfield Shopping Mall in Los Angeles, CA, shows off a charging station and a pre-production Coda Sedan. Additional features include an interactive educational area (Coda calls it an electric vehicle bar), a sign-up station for test drives and a full-scale replica of Coda's battery and propulsion system.

Oddly, potential customers can't buy a Coda Sedan at the Experience Center. That's because the point of the center is, according to Coda, to "bridge the gap of electric vehicle curious consumers and those who are considering purchase." We have to assume this will change in the future, because for now, potential consumers can't buy a Coda Sedan because countless delays means it's still not available.

Located in the parking garage directly below the store, CODA's Test Drive Center will offer customers the chance to take a CODA for a test drive. Drivers can also become comfortable using an EV charger and the installation process, at the six reserved CODA parking spaces with dedicated EV chargers.

Staffed with Guru's who are passionate about the EV industry, the CODA, and getting your home EV ready, the interactive in-store environment aims to bridge the gap of EV curious consumers and those who are considering purchase.
