It looks like BMW is out to broaden the 6 Series range. A spy videographer managed to lay lenses on a very camouflaged version of the big 6 with two extra doors. Specifics on the 6 Series GranCoupe are sparse at the moment, though odds are that the suits at BMW are taking aim at the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class with the new model. Does BMW need yet another sedan in its mix? More importantly, does the world need another coupe-like four door? All we can say is that the world doesn't need bourbon, either, but it sure makes the place a little more interesting.

The same can be said for vehicles with limited niche appeal. At this point, your guess is as good as ours when it comes to the vehicle's launch date, but given that engineers are already logging miles on public streets, we wouldn't put the 6 Series GranCoupe more than two years from production. Hit the jump to check out the full video for yourself.

Doesn't a 6 Series with 4 doors become a 5 Series? How many 5 Series Frankensteins will they produce?. I'm fully expecting BMW to release a 5 Series Minivan very soon. Diluting the brand - BMW will become Germany's version of General Motors, pre federalization.

About that bourbon nonsense - 17.6 million alcoholics in US +1 person in Europe (me) are going to disagree with you AB.

This could be the Ross Perot for the BMW sedan shopper. It's not going to earn more sales as several folks have already mentioned, rather dilute the BMW line and steal sales from it's other flagship models. This is a bad idea. I might think otherwise if I thought it was going to be a cool car.

i wish I were rich enough to be in the market for one. My biggest gripes is with its roofline, it is too traditional and not swoopy enough... perhaps, though, it may also have the most usable back seat as compared to the A7 and the CLS.

They're not trying too hard with the whole "4-door coupe" thing are they? This looks like the 5-series with a 6-series front end and rear. I'd take this over the 5, but I know that look alone demands another $15-20K.

What the 5-series should have been.

Panamera is still the best in this segment. CLS seems to have better lines than this 6-series 4-dr coupé

I would love to hear the internal presentation at BMW in which they convince themselves that this appeals to an audience who wouldn't otherwise buy a BMW, or provides different utility, or... wait: I have it. It's neither of those things, but they know some people will be willing to pay a bunch more for it, so there you go. Margin enhancer.

Maroon = 650i GC (going by the sound of a V8 rumble) White = 635i GC (definitely has that N55 growl) If it is the N55, wouldn't this be the 1st 6-Series to be powered by the N55? Because I don't think the E63 came with it.

Funny, E63 is the model code for the last gen 6er, and also competitor Mercedes' top of the line mid size sport sedan.
