With a top speed of 205 mph the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is the fastest production car General Motors has ever built, but this road-ready racer owes quite a bit to its GT counterpart, the C6.R. We head to Pratt & Miller to talk tech transfer with Corvette Racing's technical director Doug Louth.

      GREAT VEHICLE THE ZR1 and MOST IMPORTANT.....MADE IN THE GOOD OLD U.S.A.!!!!! Corvette is the Americas Sports Car Legend but for some reason the Corvette does not appeal to the newer generation? They are into MB, BMW, Audi and Porsche;and for you Mr Frederiken (below comment).....You Can kiss my (where the sun don't shine)....YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS IGNORANT!!!!

        They aren't into the Corvette because they are without a shred of pride in their own country and what her people can achieve on their own. They fail to recognize this and overlook what is made here for them in lieu of some foreign badge that is not nearly as good and likely never was. Don't worry. As the song goes "Times are a'changin'." They are turning around in steps as Detroit steps up. The C7 will along in a year and no one can really deny the Corvette is still the car to beat despite the hype around cars like the GT-R and 911. No car is a capable for the price anywhere in the world.

        Made in the Good Old USA indeed. Sorry to say there is no reason for USA manufacturers to imprve for they have the likes of you to keep everything GOOD OLD USA old. Even the Koreans are kicking ur butt and we shall remain " good old USA". The chinese are coming with their newer models and we still will be " good old usa". Indians are making better cars ( in 10 yrs ) we will be "good old USA". The Europeans have been kicking our butt from the 60s and dont even talk about the Japanese. BUT we will remain the good old USA. PLEEEEEASE thank God we have new blood ( only some ) in Detroit and have in last 2 yrs gone back to making Cars America can make, keep the Good old USA in your coffin and please bury it lest we can shove in our arse with good old USA.

      I'm all for the advancement of American car companies and technology, and there is a lot to like about the current Corvette lineup... however, this video comes off as little more than a GM-sponsored puff piece (and I like GM). The LS9 engine, a heavily modified LS3 is without question a great engine, but there is far more to say about the technology and engineering than "so the engine itself is the same, you're just able to add different piece onto the outside." The Corvette has improved significantly in handling, build quality, and usable horsepower, which has translated to surprising times on the Ring and great accolades from reviewers. Translogic and Hasemeyer say nothing about the process of technology transfer between the GT Le Mans team and the production group. How are those racing lessons applied? What are the constraints? How has the engineering evolved over the years? Has Chevy looked at alternative power sources? How do they see the vehicle developing in the near future? Obviously this short video isn't going to cover everything Corvette under the sun, but at least some real details and discussion on the technology and engineering would have been nice. As for the "if you criticize Corvettes you're un-American and hate baby Jesus"... well, take a look at this MT article - http://blogs.motortrend.com/st-antoine-hates-the-chevrolet-corvette-zr1-and-other-myths-2279.html

        Man are you picky. Go write your own article. You are probably a back seat driver also.

          Speaking of back seats, I wonder how it feels riding in the back seat of your Corvette GS with the "optional LS7."

      That is a beautiful car. I wish I had 100k+ to spend on this. Gets my heart pumping just by looking at it, without even driving one!!!

      Corvette is always the USA muscle car hard to beat. It would be awesome if they put this powerplant in a through back design.

        @Dan Frederiksen
        Yeah. It's so primitive that corvettes sell 100/1 over it's nearest $200K competitor. No one can touch them for the price. Go and ask Mercedes if they would like to sell as many SLKs as chevy sells vettes? The only thing that is primitive about the carbon fiber all aluminum engine ZR1 is that it does every thing that a top German performance car does but at 1/3 the cost. I guess they could put the best leather and wood grain in it and sell it as European's price for performance. LOL Lemans isn't Nascar bozo!

        hey dan,...i'm a porsche 911 guy,...and even i LOVE the corvette,..and any selfs-respecting car lover loves and admires what corvette can accomplish in their cars,...if that's a dying primitive beast,...I WANT MORE BEASTS LIKE IT!,...I hope to god they NEVER stop makin' the vette,..what a sad and tragic day in automotive history that would be!,...so i think you'll find yourself in the distinct minority here!,...long live american muscle!,...gives my 911's some worthwhile competition!...

      I have tried many programs in an effort to stop the paycheck to pay check syndrome. I'm a single parent , I work full-time and in the past I worked full time and 2 or 3 extra jobs. After experiencing a dead-end moment in my finances, not un-like most people in this economy, I was presented with this amazing simple money making opportunity: ( HTtp://tinyurl.com/OnlineBizSystem ) My trouble in the past was that all my attempts at actually making money online failed. I was just throwing dollar after dollar at any income opportunity out there...

      I don't think it's fair to compare this car to say the Ferrari 458 because they're just completely different. A super car is about the experience, the uniqueness of the drive, the engineering, and the design. The ZR1 is an amazing car though.

      I love the vette. It shows for 1/3 the price and reliability at nearly the top we can talk on the Europeans, and hopefully Japanese in terms of consumer $$$$ cars.

        Japanese? Are you kidding? What japanese car ? The $500k Lexus F? That thing barely beats the boss302 mustang around the track.
