It's no surprise that right wingers, by and large, hate the Chevy Volt, but Media Matters has put together a truly amazing collection of clips of Fox host Neil Cavuto disparaging GM's plug-in car.

There are plenty of reasons a person can list to not like the Volt; the fact that it plugs in is most decidedly not one of them. But that seems to be Cavuto's main line of argument against the plug-in hybrid. He says that having to plug a car in will cause marital strife ("Honey, I thought you were going to plug it in." "No, you were going to plug it in.") and repeatedly says it is the "dumbest thing I've ever seen." Apparently, Fabio's lesson didn't get through to Cavuto.

This is the kind of video that really needs to be seen to be believed. Check it out for yourself after the jump.

GM has developed a new engineering platform to accommodate alternative forms of energy storage technology. The first operational platform appears to be the Chevy Volt. Eventually greater performance with better value for customers should happen as the alternative energy storage research continues. Similar advanced energy storage research is underway in Europe. In Berlin a group of young physicist engineers have invented a high capacity Solid-State energy storage system. Their invention, nicknamed the "Hummingbird", reportedly has 97% energy storage efficiency. An energy storage technology that's useful in other industrial applications as well as transportation. Several all-electric Audi A-2s equipped with the "Hummingbird" are already on the roads of Germany this summer (2011) undergoing validation testing. They're reportedly driving 280+ miles on a single charge! This is about 7x greater electric range than a Volt and about 3x greater range than Nissan's Leaf. Their compact Solid-State energy storage invention doesn't take up very much trunk space or require a redesign of the passenger seating area, doesn't need a special battery cooling sub-system or a hybrid range extender gas engine. Having significantly greater all-electric drive range available for the customer, at lower cost, from the onset is encouraging. There's less need to constantly "plug-in" and the refueling routine is very similar to a gas powered car. Attached are several web links with videos & news stories illustrating the Germans' Solid-State energy storage invention. Yet, remarkable as all of these engineering developments are, we're probably looking at years if not decades before they're generally widely accepted by the public and on the roads in significant quantities? http://www.reuters.com/video/2011/05/03/electric-car-battery-boasts-range-of?videoId=205871922&videoChannel=302 http://www.reuters.com/video/2011/05/05/electric-car-set-to-go-the-distance?videoId=206051651 http://www.berlinonline.de/berliner-zeitung/archiv/.bin/dump.fcgi/2011/0614/wirtschaft/0002/index.html http://www.cleanthinking.de/neues-management-kolibri-power-systems-ag/15538/

All of you seem to like the volt - and a person on TV disagrees. If you believe in diversity and are open minded to different ideas - why are you all so angry? You might 'think' he's wrong, but remember your own philosophy, "Nothing is black and white, nothing is right or wrong - everything is a beautiful shade of gray." You should at least try to pretend to believe your own rhetoric. The Volt is a fantastic marvel of technology - a cool experiment - but who really wants a $41,000 compact car, that needs $7,000 in goverments handouts to get people to buy it? I think that sentence actually answered the question...hmmmm GM should keep it up, but no need for a pitch fork and lit torches moment simply because someone dares disagree with you. Open minded, anyone?

I'm not angry at all. In fact, I like stories that give me a good laugh. OMG! Plugging in is going cause people to get divorced! ROTFL! Neil Cavuto is funnier than Steven Colbert at times.

There is nothing wrong with a random person having an opinion. But . . .this guy is on a popular "news" channel that claims to be "fair and balanced". He is spouting demonstrably false information. -"You'll forget to plug it in" . . . the car will text you if you forget. And if you forget you can still drive on gas. -"Fred Flinstone car" . . . it goes 100mph and was MotorTrend car of the year. etc. Saying that it is expensive is legitimate criticism. But his attacks are more along the line of "Anyone that gets a plug-in car is stupid dumb dumb poopyhead!"

Wrong. Cavuto did not 'disagree'; he went on a mindless rant. No shades of gray there. Pure propaganda, bought and paid for. That's what folks don't like. But thanks for the moment of zen...

I don't recall myself spouting "shade of gray" rhetoric, or putting forth a philosophy, nor did I say I was open-minded to different ideas. Cavuto can GFH.

This guy clearly has ulterior motives, that's what bugs people. I dont watch his show, but this is simply negative propaganda from someone who clearly doesnt know what he is talking about. Really has only little to do with the Volt more than it has to do with EVs in general. Sure, you are entitled to your opinion, but dont go out of your way to offend people, thats just lame.

Spiffster, "entitled to your opinion, but dont go out of your way to offend people, thats just lame", that's the whole point, the show sells on it's tabloid value. Just like Jerry Springer, or lenny Bruce, or Punk Rock bands. he intends to upset people. Especially those who will repond with indignation.

See - now there is a rational reply! And yes - plugging in a car - OMG the horror! Personally, I would bring a cord everywhere I go, and try to park near an outlet and hide the plug with leaves or something so I could get out of paying for the electricity myself! :D But great point - so he doesn't like it. Fine. On the positive side, he did have many people that disagree with him, but on the negative side, if he doesn't like it, move on. I am not a fan of Chevy Areolae, but it really doesn't piss me off enough to talk that much about it (yes, pleased with myself on the pun).

Very foolish of you EZEE to think we could control the price of oil by drilling more. OPEC will set the price for a barrel of oil no matter how much we drill to power your 20% explosion machine. You really think the oil corps will sell you a barrel of oil cheaper than what it goes for on the world market? Oh contraire, my friend, .

Wow, this guys a real a**hole, but then I read through a these comments and I can sort understand his very American media method To try to bring some reality to the issue, is virtually impossible. Too many passionate ego's! But here's an attempt. Rupert Murdoch, is neither right nor left in politics, he's Rupert Murdoch. He doesn't 'choose' governments, he just good at picking winners! Fox is owned by News Corp. News Corp has a 6.4% common shareholder who is a Saudi Citizen. He only get 1.6% of the voting rights. Rupert Murdoch controls a vast media empire and many of the "high quality'" publications in his stable would have long since become extinct without subsidies from the Tabloids and TV. Only Rupert Murdoch supports the loss making enterprises. Elizabeth Murdoch drives a Hybrid. Rupert Murdoch has stated on a number of occasions, including a televised speech to the Australian Press Club, that EV's and alternate vehicles are 'Inevitable" . News ltd, in Australia is the only company that owns and operates EV's. Lachlan Murdoch is a large investor and supporter of solar, wind and EV's. (And if you don't stop picking on his Dad, his Stepmom'll come round and punch your lights out!) The way I figure it, Neil Cavuto, Rush Linbaugh etc, are just sort of Jerry Springer clones, Shock Jocks. It's a just a freak show. No serious conservative/Republican voter would align themselves with that nonsense! The loony left, insane conspiracy theorists, etc, do not represent the liberal/centre left, US voter. Fox is about making money, these clowns get everyone het up, and the ratings rise with the ignorant and indignant. Others watch, fascinated at the freak show. Fox sells advertising based on the number of viewers. It doesn't sell prestige or thought provoking news coverage, it's a tabloid! There's no sinister evil "big Oil' plot! Just tabloid rating business, if Fox thought it could create as much controversy and hype supporting GM and it's Volt, Fox would be it's No.1 fan! Actually, Neil Cavuto does GM and Volt a huge favour! He draws attention to the vehicle, any publicity's good publicity. His views are exactly the same as my schoolmaster who decreed that the ballpoint pen was a fad, and would never catch on! By the time I was at University, all legal; documents were required to be executed in ballpoint.! Right, left, Leaf , Volt, EV-v-REEV , who cars? The GM volt is a car! Not a tool of the devil, left/right wing plot! Just a car! (Maybe a revolutionary car, with very interesting and promising technology). It's built by GM to make money. Not save the world, or push any ideological wheelbarrow. It's just a car, if you like it, buy it, if it doesn't suit you, by a Leaf. or a Fisker, or a Prius, or any other type that suits you. No one, well no one who would have contemplated buying an EV, would be put off because of the attics of a media clowns, like Neil Cavuto etc, who possess zero credibility.

I will have to remember all of this when I see NBC editing clips to make Rick perry sound racist (black cloud), or CBS reporting on fake national guard memos, or abc(?) faking exploding tanks on gm trucks, or msnbc showing a 'racist' with a gun at a tea party protest, only to not show his skin (he was black), or all of the NYT's recent scandals (jayson Blair), or bill maher making rape jokes against Sarah palin and Michele Bachman... Having a single network with a different point of view...awful, just awful... Now, I will go back to feeling thrills up my leg, for the man who is sort of a god, Obama.

I don't know about "lying", but your cousin is definitely delusional if she thinks Fox has the only truth. Fox pundits are routinely caught in lies, provable demonstrable lies, but somebody that only watched Fox News wouldn't know that, as Fox pundits never ever admit to error, even when they are proven to be wrong. That's what I like about Rachel Maddow, she's a careful meticulous journalist, and when she makes a mistake, she issues a prompt and sincere correction.
