The annual Woodward Dream Cruise brought around one million gawkers and gasoline alley types to the Detroit corridor to show and see the very best of the Motor City.

Started by a suburban Detroit car club in 1995, organizers initially expected a few thousand fans to turn out. The initial event, though, turned out to draw more than 250,000, and attendance has only grown.

Over the years, Dream Cruisers have had to weather a number of hardships to enjoy their passion: a nationwide blackout a decade ago and a downpour this year. But the stalwarts drive on every year.

AOL Autos Multimedia Director Adam Morath toured the Dream Cruise and put our readers in the driver's seat with some of Detroit's best stuff from yesteryear...and today.
