Today, Ferrari is unveiling the 458 Spider, and official video of the new sports car's roof operation has already hit YouTube. It's as simple as it is slick. The rear-hinged tonneau flips up, after which the Superamerica-style roof panel rotates back into the space behind behind the seats. After extending two small trim elements, the tonneau comes back down. It's elegant and fast, and the car, predictably, looks beautiful. Keep an eye out for additional info on Ferrari's newest addition later today. In the meantime, hit the jump to see the roof in action.

Hate to say it, but I prefer the hard top variant. Something about the roofline that finishes off the looks of this car. In top down form, it just looks, well, incomplete. Other Ferrari's have looked better topless, not this one.

So are they going to clutter the steering wheel even more by putting the switch for the top operation there?

I'm guessing this outsells the hardtop from here on out 70% to 30%. Looks fantastic roof up or down!

Looks awesome with the top going down, atleast from the front and front quarter view. But why wouldnt they show the rear or rear quarter view with the top going down/up also. Afterall the views most people would have of the car. I'll give the benefit of the doubt, because its Ferrari.. but I'd still like to see whatelse is going on back there and how the car looks with top up from a 360 degree before declaring it fantastic.
