There isn't much to speculate upon here. Take one tantalizing Jaguar XKR-S, cut off the roof, strengthen the body a bit and voila – Jaguar XKR-S Convertible. Sounds good, right?

Our spies recently captured this bright red prototype out running the Nürburgring, and judging by how composed and put-together this tester looks, we'd say that the XKR-S Convertible's debut isn't too far away. (We're looking at you, Frankfurt Motor Show.)

Expect powertrain and performance details to be carried over unchanged from the coupe. That means the Jaguar droptop will likely produce 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque from its supercharged 5.0-liter V8. The hardtop will sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds, but we expect the roofless version to come in with a time that's a tenth of a second or two longer than that.

We'll likely receive more details in the coming weeks. In the meantime, click through our high-res image gallery to see the Jaguar hotness for yourself.

It would be an interesting poll to see how folks here come down on the aesthetics of wheels... I prefer my wheels silver or something thereabouts... I really don't like the dark or black wheels on any car. I think they make a beautiful car like this look something less than eye popping. Is it an age thing??? I'm old school I guess...

Jag should've just stayed with the hardtop, this doesn't look good with a soft top at all.

I've always loved Jaguar's XK series, they remind me of what a modern Eldorado would be like.

Whats up with the Autoblog guys? Where is the story on the comparison between the Jaguar and the GT-R on Top Gear. The GT-R did a 1:17.8 on the Top Gear track and there is no story anywhere on this site???!!!! Getting rusty are we?

That's one serious piece of ugly

No Jag heritage in those lines.

Any one else see the resemblance to the current Eclipse Spyder? I'm not suggesting that's a good thing either. I appreciate the performance, but it's a little too "boy racer" to be a proper Jaguar in my eyes.

That Jag is so fast I bet you'll need a 5-point harness to prevent being sucked out while at speed with the top down.

Good for them lol. But like a said before,i doudt the we will not a see V8 (M3) and V10 (M5) make a comeback in the near future in addition to the coming new V6 TT for the M3 and V8 TT with the M5. Am just saying ;-)

The first thing I thought of when I saw this picture was "is mitsubishi re-doing the eclipse??" Granted it is unfinished and upon closer inspection doesn't resemble it all that much, but probably not something jaguar would like to hear nonetheless.

WOW!!! so many dislikes. I'm a proud owner of a xkr 2010 and have to say hands down it's the most impressive automobile i've strapped my self into!!! I have been in and around allot of super cars. A close friend of mine has a 430 16M Ferrari that we do allot of rallys and track events OK he's got me beat there! Not trying to make any comparisons just saying they have come such a long way with there performance. I am in no way intimidated when I go to these events and pull up in the xkr I have a racing exhaust on it that brings out the true animal whats under the hood! I saw pictures of the new 2012 coupe just when I thought this car couldn't get any better my hands started to shake like they do every time I drive my car! Ya you could get a Maserati for the price now for the 2012. Looked at them drove one still went clawing back . At 550hp this puts Jaguar on the map for performance at a whole new level! It's pure elegant aggression at it's finest. There only importing 200 into the states like other exclusive companies you have to get on a list to be fortunate enough to crawl into one of these beauties . Where do I sign up!! In conclusion if you see a flash of blue and a sound of an animal thats mechanical That will be me!!!
