Carroll Shelby

TMZ is reporting tonight that automotive legend Carroll Shelby has been accused of sexual assault by a former receptionist. Angelica Smith, who reportedly began working for Shelby back in 2005, filed her lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court earlier today. In it she claims that Shelby ran a "pervasively hostile work environment" and that "Shelby himself sexually battered [Smith] by groping her." Smith also claims that another employee of Shelby's had drugged and raped her at his house in December 2010, and that he did not take any action when she reported the incident to him. The lawsuit names Shelby himself, his companies and the accused rapist, with damages in excess of $5 million.

None of us here at Autoblog know Shelby on a personal level, but we've met the man on more than a few occasions and have always been charmed by his natural charisma, genuine love of cars and friendly nature. Hopefully the truth is reached in this case and it's not as bad a picture as these allegations paint.

At the very least this is Ford's excuse to now separate itself from Shelby... bring back the SVT Cobra? Yes please.
+100 internets to you sir. A new SVT Cobra would be badass, and even better if it features an aluminum DOHC 32 valve, supercharged/twin turbocharged 6.2L and a god IRS setup just to shut up the haters.

I highly doubt this. Sounds like Smith didn't make good enough samiches.

I agree, it sounds like someone just want some quick cash.

Skeptical; waiting for the facts. Nowadays, you walk into an office and say "hello gorgeous!" and you're a sexual predator. Give me a break! How close are we to girls sueing guys for using bad (or any) pick-up lines in bars? If SHE was at the coworker's house, how is it Shelby's fault? Too many lawyers, and not enough engineers, according to Lee Iacoca.

That's one way to make house payments in a down economy. "My boss is like... a total jerk, but i'm going to totally tell him i was raped, instead of like... calling the cops n stuff. Then i'm going to sue my boss, instead of... like... the guy who raped me and whatever". I doubt there's any rumble left in Shelby's cobra.

Of course he's got that rumble. He added on Viagra, I mean a supercharger.
