This weekend was supposed to be a busy one for Travis Pastrana. In what had been dubbed "Pastranathon," the Moto X / RallyCross driver / NASCAR rookie was set to compete in X Games 17 Thursday and Friday, fly to Indianapolis on Saturday for his NASCAR Nationwide debut, then be back in Los Angeles on Sunday to compete in RallyCross for Subaru. Instead, Pastrana will be sitting this weekend out with a broken right foot and ankle.

According to ESPN, the injury occurred last night when Pastrana failed in an attempt to perform a "Corked 720" in the Moto X "Best Trick" competition. His bike landed on top of his right leg after he under-rotated through the spin, leaving him to be carried off the dirt on a stretcher. Pastrana was sent to the hospital for X-rays and released later that night, although he will need to have surgery on his foot, ankle and hand at a later date.

You can watch a video of Pastrana's unsuccessful "Moto X Best Trick" attempt after the jump.

      I dont understand why ESPN and everyone else was so interested in his failed attempts and not focused on the other riders that did outlandish things and landed them. I would be kinda pissed if I were the rider that took first and the only thing people are showing is Pastrami's (yes that is what I call him) 2 failed attempts.

        @Dan
        Forgot to add that he took it upon himself to skip in everyone else and take his second run right after his first.

          yep, and that's when he broke his leg... that'll teach him not to jump in line

          No. No he didn't. He was determined to do the trick properly, he never skipped ahead of anyone. If you listen to the video, you will hear Sal talk about how TP wasn't going for gold or any medal. He was just trying to raise the bar in MotoX Freestyle, as was Mark Monae with his new trick (which resulted in a mild concussion).

      Used to be a Pastrana fan until he went to NASCAR, so I am glad I won't have to see him competing in anything this weekend. I'm sure special stage forum members will be gloating over his injuries even more boastfully.

      I think karma got him here. He messed up the first attempt. He should have gotten back in line. Instead, he feels he's "Travis Pastrana" I can do what I want, and goes for a second attempt. This arrogant move cost him, and I kind of lost a little respect for him. Very premadona do whatever I want attitude is not attractive. That's what made him a fun person to watch. He's easy going, enjoys riding and doing things, and never really makes you feel he's above everyone, except this move.

        karma got him for... not quitting? I guarantee that wasn't his second EVER attempt and he practiced that in the foam pit until he KNEW he could land it on dirt

      It's crazy to think that the tricks I was doing in motocross games when I was younger are now being done in real life. Awesome.

      If you are trying to make a career move to nascar why on earth take this kind of risk...

        @ijardine
        I doubt its a career move to nascar, just a temporary venture which to see if he enjoys that style. What I'm hoping is that hes only getting into nascar as a stepping stone into f1 for the upcoming Texas GP. Red Bull could throw him on Toro Rosso and would gain much more in advertising that it would lose in him getting his ass whooped

      NASCAR debut? Uh what? He's already made his NASCAR debut in the lower rank classes of NASCAR.

      So much for the "Pastranathon" weekend. ESPN execs are probably sweating bullets, wondering how much X-games viewership will be lost. Wonder who will take his spot in X-Games Rally racing?
