Bask in the glory that is the 2012 BMW M5. Even before it was officially unveiled, we were bombarded with spy shots and teaser videos, so to say that this car has been on our minds for quite some time is indeed an understatement. We're ready for our hot laps, BMW.

Following the flood of images and information that was released earlier this year, BMW has now released B-roll footage of the M5 doing what it does best: looking awesome and driving fast. Of course, the German automaker is keen to show off all of the M5's details and tech goodies, so in addition to loads of hardcore driving scenes in the video, there are lots of slow panning shots to show off every last detail of BMW's new supersedan. Follow the jump to see the hotness.

Not sure yet... can't help thinking that it's just a slinky version of the X6. I really just don't like turbos. At this price point I don't care too much about the fuel efficiency of a turbo sitting at the light.. and it's really just cheap horsepower. This is an M. It deserves something more special under the hood.. give it high-revving NA and stop/start.. I'd take that!

I can barely wait to see a YT video of one of these with a straight pipe exhaust.

They cleaned up that exterior styling considerably compared to the rather messy last gen model. Unfortunately I see that the interior is another typical boring design... not a fan at all. Overall though, looks like one killer car.

Meh, it's just another bloated Bimmer now. I long for a 1999-2000 M5 with the 400-horse V8. Other sedans have surpassed it, but to me that vintage still has great looks and power for the $$$.

The e39 M5 has it all over this car.

I'd bet my money that you've never even driven the e39 M5 let alone sat on one. I love how everyone talks about it as well as the e30 m3 like they were the best and the last. I've actually driven the e39 M5 and though it's a great car, the new models keep getting better and better. Everybody and their grandmother claims the e30 and e39 were the best bmws. It's the typical internet-driver schpeel of someone who's never driven an M car.

I love the E39 M5! Nothing beats a naturally aspirated V8 in a simple yet sophisticated machine that doesnt need 500hp to haul around 2 tons of bulky electronics and amenities. And a 5L V8 almost always spells out goodness.

God bless the E39 M5, and the F10 is a fat ass, but I really do think it will be a great drive. Lets really worry about the next gen 3-series...and I'm extremely worried about it.

I secretly want this car to fail. I love BMW and their M division, but this has got to stop. I realize this car will be magnificent in nearly every single way compared to the old one with that glorious V-10, but I can't help but think that this car will be f***ing BORING to drive. In other words, I think it will take a page out of the GT-R's book in being a brilliant performer yet being a boring appliance for speed. i want the extra 500lbs in this gen 5 series to cripple the M5. I want BMW to get a wake up call and start thinking with their hearts instead of their financial statements. The 1 M coupe (according to journalists) is what we've been missing from BMW...well I hope they start applying that sort of thinking to their entire lineup.

I agree with you, but most likely BMW would tweak it so that statistically it blows away previous M5's and the current competition, and go on and ignore the mass and lack of character. Zee new M5 has zee highly technical turbocharged engine making 10% more horsepower and 20% less emissions than zee v10 M5 and thus it is 30% better.

To Varcity: Read some recent automotive journalism, they make the same argument when comparing the 911 Turbo S vs 458. The Porsche is an AWD lap time machine, but theres a subjective issue at hand every time. The Turbo doesn't feel exciting at all compared to the 458 despite the tremendous performance and price advantage.

um, clarkson took his neck out driving it around the track like a typhoon. he most certainly did not call it boring, nor did it seem like a boring experience. plato on 5th gear, racing against needell in the porsche, had to stop narrating because it was too fast for him to talk. you are full of it.

I wonder how it would sound. The v10 was a little obnoxious with a full exhaust

Agreed, with headers and a sports cat it's a little too much, but a simple cat-back usually hits the spot, especially when stretching it to 8000 rpm (something this one will sadly never do).
