Last week, the local news team at FOX 2 Detroit broke this story about Chrysler employees caught drinking and smoking on their lunch break near the Trenton Engine Plant. Now, Chrysler has taken swift action against the nine employees caught on tape by FOX 2 – all have been suspended without pay, pending further investigation.

In speaking to FOX 2 Detroit, Chrysler issued this official statement regarding this matter:

To date, all nine employees have been suspended indefinitely without pay pending further investigation. While the evidence seems conclusive, the Company needs to act in accordance with corporate policy and the terms of the collective bargaining agreement before further action is taken. The investigation is ongoing.

After receiving a bunch of viewer tips, FOX 2 filmed the nine Chrysler employees drinking and using drugs at a park across from the United Auto Workers Local 372 headquarters, near the Trenton plant. A similar incident occurred last September at Chrysler's Jefferson North facility. Follow the jump to watch FOX 2's original video report of the Trenton incident.

        One would think that you've never heard of Due Process. Is it really overkill, to be careful, and make sure employees are not needlessly fired while getting the facts straight? Sure it costs extra money, but how much money is lost, if employees fear arbitrary firing? Who here would do their best if they knew they could be fired arbitrarily. I know people think that the perps are obvious, with video footage and all, but is video footage 100% concrete (hint: no)? Complaining about these people not being fired, is no different than trying to hang someone without trial. Due Process is one hallmark of a fair workplace union or not.

          Apparently to these teabagging fools, due process is too much to ask for. Of course an investigation is warranted. It's not as if Fox News has any credibility with the thinking set. The previous set of tokers were all fired and I don't hear anybody on the left defending them.

          @ JayBird This is the exact argument that is used to avoid giving people a fair trial, in corrupt nation's judicial systems. Ever heard, that all defense lawyers do is, "protect scum"? @Gman Just because someone who looks like me was caught on camera doing something bad is no reason I should get into trouble. What two or more people at this plant look similar? I'm not saying they shouldn't be fired for drinking and smoking on the job; I'm saying that the employer must be darn sure they are firing the correct people and that all the facts are straight. This takes time, investigation, and money.

        Unions have cost companies billions in unnecessary monies. UAW is probably one of the biggest examples of unions that no longer need to be in existence. Their sole purpose is to squeeze companies for everything they are worth. Stop acting like people who oppose unions are evil, and start remembering how self serving union bosses really are.

        In part yes, but most people didn't buy Chrysler vehicles because of the poorly built quality.. Drunk employees or high employees won't help that situation.. specially after tax payers have paid billions for their mistakes.

          Some people who are in unions do abuse their position, but not all. Others are utterly corrupt and have no decency or moral compass. But the average worker should still be looked out for in getting back good pay and benefits. If you want politicians to bust unions, downsize workforces, pay, and get rid of a ton of benefits, then you're setting yourself up as being a bigger jerk.

          @ spotted cow just, no. Worker's rights are IN THE LAW so unions are flat out not needed. A certain job doesn't pay well enough? Well get off your lazy bum and find another one! Knock it off with this ridiculous entitlement mentality, its costing us ALL enough as it is.

      And the UAW insists they're good for business. With such clear evidence, Chrysler still has to "act in accordance with...the terms of the collective bargaining agreement" Whereas at a different, non-union company, these drunks would've been fired the day after the piece aired. UAW = United And Wasted

        But Bob King didn't know something like this was happening. Just like in the video clip, the guy from the UAW office where the parking lot was used for these lunch time parties had NO idea it was happening.

          @GMan
          My point is, if Mr King truly wanted the UAW to build some credibility with the manufacturers - the Union wouldn't wait for some sort of corporate "Administrative Process" with these losers. The UAW should be monitoring and policing their own people - and that would include kicking these guys out of the Union, effectively terminating their ability to be employed w/ Chrysler or any other manufactuer.

      I worked at Sterling Heights Assembly Plant from 2000-2008 . Here are the the things that go on that I witnessed or was a victim of. Drunkeness- been going on more than you could imagine Racism- both white on black, black on white Sexism - both ways Loansharking - seen it happen every Friday In house Lottery- seen people lose hundreds Drugs- seen people shoot up in bathroom Selling bootleg movies, purses,electronics Drunken forklift operators "forking" a car. Drunken employees driving cars off the line, installing airbags,seatbelts, seats, etc. I could write a book and become rich. The story you did is nothing new. These guys will get their jobs back because the Union will claim they have a problem and send them to rehab. Its how the system works.

      Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Fox News LOL! I wonder if they've hacked the employees phones as well! Hopefully these guys are fired because they give a black eye to American workers in general and do not deserve to have these good paying jobs. Replace them with respectable workers who take pride in their work. It's not as if this doesn't happen in non-union plants either. I live near a big Honda plant, and the same things go on. For Fox News hypocrites, the birds are finally coming home to roost and I am enjoying it!

        You guys with this absolute hatred for FOX are beyond me. Their news show play it down the middle and their opinion shows are clearly labeled as exactly that - opinion shows. Isn't this clearly better than much of the mainstream media that leans in a certain direction and calls themselves non biased?

        Nobody is defending these guys, "genius". What is being defended here is the right to due process. The previous group of tokers were investigated and summarily fired. The results for this group will likely be the same. I haven't read anybody on the left complaining that the fate of the last group was somehow unfair. Besides considering the credibility of Fox news as of late, it would be wise for a large company to be absolutely sure of any wrong doing by the employees before termination.
