Chrysler has announced a recall that affects 242,780 Ram pickups manufactured between 2003 and 2011. This includes the 2008 Ram 1500, and 2003-2011 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks.

According to the official recall statement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these trucks may have a defective left tie rod ball stud that can fracture during low-speed parking maneuvers. According to NHTSA:

This condition could result in the potential loss of directional stability in the left hand front wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

To remedy this potential problem, dealers will inspect the tie rod ends and perform an alignment if necessary. NHTSA states that Chrysler has not yet provided an owner notification schedule, but we'd expect this recall to ramp up within the coming weeks. Follow the jump for NHTSA's official statement.

Wonder if this fixes the "death wobble". Ever been in a dodge that did that? When pulling a trailer with you car on it? Scary scary.

The death wobble nearly ended my days! I was heading down the highway at 65 mph when my 2003 Dodge 4x4 4 door started jumping up and down...lost all steering control. When I finally got stopped I had crossed 2 lanes of oncoming traffic. It was the steering box. Failed 2 more times. Dodge said that there were no other reports for this failure...

I own a Ram 3500 Dually 4 x 2 and after having new tires installed was told that I need a front end alignment. Took it to the dealer who informed me that they did not have the equipment to do alignments on dualy's. Took it to there recommended provider and was informed that I had a loose left tie rod and before they could do an alignment I would have to get a new tie rod. Called the dealer and was told that warranty provider was closed for the evening but that a cost of approximately $250.00 was a reasonable price to have the work done. Then I google 2010 Ram 3500 Tie Rod and find this recall that the dealer NEVER mentioned or even alluded too. I Love my Ram, but the support from Chrysler and this dealer has been less than supportive.
