"Transformers 3" vs. "The Island" – Click above to view video after the jump

The attached video explains it all, so we'll keep this simple. It seems Michael Bay directly cribbed scenes from his 2005 movie, The Island, for 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is gobbling up people's disposable income this weekend.

Extreme credit goes to the YouTube user who recognized Bay's clever use of CGI and called him out on it. This also proves that at least one human being actually saw The Island. Hit the jump to watch the side-by-side video comparison.

"This also proves that at least one human being actually saw The Island." Scarlett Johanson. Enough reason to watch The Island.

Whoa, whoa, whoa..."at least one human being saw The Island"?! Sure, Michael Bay may be a joke in the movie biz, but Scarlett Johansson in The Island was well worth the price of admission.

I was told that he chose to use that footage following the accident that occurred during filming of Transformers 3 when an extra had her head scalped by a snapped wire. Instead of trying the risky scene again, and in a crunch for time, he reused the shot from The Island instead, being that it sorta fit.

This was the scene where that girl either got seriously injured or killed. No surprise they scratched most of it and went with a sample. They lost a lot of time.

II have noticed this before in other movies. Gi Joe used helicopter scenes from black hawk down, and in live free or die hard they showed grid lock scenes from the Italian job.. it saves money... they probably saved 50 grand probably more by not having to rig another 5 cars .

Ha, that's real funny. Not only is it mostly CGI, it's reused CGI. It's only a few seconds in the film but still pretty shady.

Looks like he went over the budget and had to save a few bucks. Lol

It was like the fast food of action movies - quick with high thrills but low nutritional value.

The reason the island footage was used was because of an accident that happened on set whilest filming the original scenes (rather than the ones shown in the movie, which were taken from the island). If u can remember, a young aspiring actress nearly lost her head due to an explosion accident on the highway with one of those mercedes filming ML rigs. Because of some legal issues, and most likely money issues, Bay saw a way to correct the problem fast and efficiently, and with the use of some slick cgi magic, took something he already had in his inventory and recycled it, and pretty well I might add. Kudos to bay for being quick to react like that. Though my condolences go out to the actress and her family. I am an actor myself and I've yet to see anything as horrifying, but there were times where it got pretty crazy on set with pyrotechnics and stunts.
