"Since 1972 the Porsche Design luxury brand embodies that philosophy in everything that we have created, bringing a sense of quality and luxury to every single Porsche Design product. We are pleased to introduce a product that resembles superior form and functionality."

Today the luxury brand and the leading technology company announce the evolution of LaCie's portfolio designed by Porsche Design, by introducing a new generation of storage solutions. The LaCie Porsche Design Mobile and Desktop Hard Drives are built with durable and scratch-resistant aluminium, protecting the hard drive mechanics. Each frame is built with precision. The aluminium also regulates heat for guaranteed performance. And for the environment, the aluminium frame is 100 percent recyclable.

And a beautiful design company at that. Just went into the Porsche Design store in Vegas yesterday and was completely overwhelmed. Their sunglasses are amazing, almost enough to separate me from $700 for a pair.

I love the look of these hard drives ... but I would NEVER trust LaCie to hold even a .txt draft of mine. I keep my stash of prematurely-dead LaCie boxes around to remind me: "never again". Very pretty though, PD.

Slick, modern looking industrial design from a company that's used the same design for their flagship vehicle for decades? That makes sense.

PD's been doing external hard drive enclosures for a long time. I've got a 250Gb LaCie "by F A Porsche" drive that's a few years old.

I've got that same 250GB hard drive. The new ones seem to be playing up the Porsche connection with the lettering on the top. Mine is plain.

So the larger one's the Box and the smaller one is the Boxster?
