2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe spy shots – Click above for high-res image gallery

It's funny; of the three German luxury brands, BMW was the first to offer a sport-utility vehicle – the X5 – and yet it's the last to create some sort of four-door coupe, the next hot segment that every luxury marque seems to be diving into. Mercedes-Benz is now on its second generation of the CLS, the sexy Audi A7 is now on sale around the globe, and even Porsche took notice and created the Panamera. Nevertheless, BMW is quickly prepping its own take on the four-door coupe with this, the 6 Series Gran Coupe, which – based on this latest set of spy photos – looks to be nearing completion.

Not surprisingly, the 6 Series Gran Coupe will share its turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines with the 5 and 7 Series lineup, likely launching in 650i guise first with BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. Don't be surprised if the production car debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall.

And how is this different from the 5series? I hope the interior will be somehow different, even though that's too much to ask for from BMW... At least the CLS looks very different from the E inside and out. And it's not a coupe... just a sleeker, more stylized version of a sedan. And there is nothing wrong with that, I love stylish cars, but a coupe it is not.

BOOORRRRIINNNG! The CLS550 wraps circles around this in terms of shear design, and presence.

How about making a car that isn't fugly. I don't care how many doors it has. Just don't make it ugly. Is that too much to ask?

No idea why, but I keep thinking thats what a modern day Lincoln Town Car should look like. Call me crazy... As a BMW Branded Merc CLS fighter....not so much.

Well, I see the European pedestrian safety laws highly infuenced the nose of this one....It looks okay, but not as menacing as the concept...I will wait until the final product comes out before judgment. Oh, and what car nut, especially on a car blog doesn't know that the ML came out 2 years before the X-5. Tisk Tisk.

Oh, that's cool. Autoblog deleted a comment critical of it rather than realizing it made a factual mistake and correcting it. What's that? Your catchy, terribly witty entrance line doesn't work without the mistake? Well, the mistake must stay then! Brilliant journalism.
