BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe – Click above for high-res image gallery

BMW has previously confirmed that it plans to build a production version of the 6 Series Gran Coupe Concept that it unveiled at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show, and these plausible-looking patent filings appear to give a glimpse at the car's final design. Much like BMW's latest batch of concept cars – the M5 and 6 Series Coupe, notably – the "finished" product doesn't stray too much from the original concept car, save, of course, the traditional dumbing-down of air intakes and wheel sizes.

The 6 Series Gran Coupe is expected to slot in between the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series in terms of both size and price, and will likely use the same range of turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines that we see in those models. While not as overly swoopy as its competitors, the 6 Series Gran Coupe will be poised to do battle with the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS for four-door coupe luxury supremacy.

The first generation CLS broke new ground as far as MB was concerned. This BMW version looks just like its F10 sibling, and just like the 5, straddles a fine line between bland and ugly.

something got lost in translation from the concept to the production model. The production one looks very bland, which goes against the point of making this in the first place. This just looks like BMW's playing catch up. BMW's saying "me too" and I think it's kind of embarrassing for them

yeah where is the coupe part of it. please CLS did it right at least the first time. then it went downhill and looked less and less coupe-ish seems like its all marketing.

So, this is just your old plain sedan car. What's so "coupe" about it? "Coupe" comes form the same route as "couple", meaning a two-seater with a hard roof. I wonder why they didn't call it a "shooting brake", as that seems to be another trendy word totally abused by automakers today.

OH goody, the answer to the question nobody asked. Let me guess: It weighs 3 tons, its as large as a house, has zero rearward visibility and 15 TV screens to make up for it.

Swagger? Your rant can't possibly be taken seriously. If you've even laid eyes on the concept car, you would know that very little of its original design was lost in translation from concept to production vehicle. Also, recessed indicators =/= panel gaps. Even you should understand that given that the old 6 had slightly recessed headlamps compared to its indicators. All money, no intelligence.
