Everyone's favorite car show is slated to return sometime next month, but we've got little indication of what to expect. We'll know soon enough, but before the first episode of the new season of Top Gear airs – likely with a teaser of what's to come – we've got these snapshots to go by.

According to Netherlands-based Autojunk, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were spotted with a trio of European hot hatches in the the ancient town of Lucca in Italy's picturesque Tuscany region. The cars in question appear to be an Abarth 500C Esse Esse, a rare Citroën DS3 Racing and the benchmark Renaultsport Clio.

It looks to be a great shootout, and we'll look forward to seeing it on the BBC when it airs. Of course it's entirely possible that, with production schedules the way they are, that won't happen until the following season, but we're sure to enjoy finding out one way or another.

Top Gear has become too over-the-top in my opinion. I prefer real reviews instead of racing a Bugatti with an airplane and all that other nonsense that the show has become.

That's the nice thing about having viewer control, you can watch something else.

TopGear's audience must have the absolute lowest IQ levels of any show this side of Oprah. Television, that vast wasteland - Newton Minnow.

Oh look, he really thinks he's smart. If you don't get Top Gear, if you can separate the good reviews from the jokes then you're the one lacking some IQ points. And quoting someone else won't make you look smarter.

LOL this just seems like another one of those Top Gear 'must do' a review on 'lame' cars for general public like Clarkson's comparo of a Daihatsu vs Ascari A10.

Looks good, but 4 normal doors was the way to go. 3 doors puts it in the oddball cars category on jeopardy beside the pacer.

I can easily see the Fiat winning this contest...just like every other contest those guys do that involves it. Even if its not the quickest or most race-car like, it usually wins on good looks, fun to drive and affordability.

Love the Abarth, but the two-tone paint job is horrendous. Looks like it's chanellng an 80's Oldsmobile Pace Car Replica. Yuk.

Any wagers on who's driving what? It looks like Clarkson showed up with the Citroen. No GTI R model though. That would be cool. http://www.fredgetswed.com
