Did you pick up your 2011 BMW 1 Series M? If not, you may be paying a lot more for one down the road. The $46,135 German sports coupe will be produced through the end of this year... and then it's done. According to TheDetroitBureau.com, BMW admits that its latest sex toy pumped-up two-door will have a very limited run of one model year.

That's not to say we won't see another version on the future. However, it could be several years before that happens, which should make the current (and only) crop of BMW 1 Series M cars quite collectible.

After reading TDB's report, we pressed BMW for some more insight into the matter, and received confirmation that the current 1 Series M is only sticking around for the 2011 model year. The next generation 1 Series is at least two-and-a-half to three years away, which is too much time to speculate on a future 1 Series M. Curious as to how many 2011 1 Series M coupes will be produced? So are we, and BMW can only share that "less than 1,000 units" will be produced in 2011.

Said another way... get in line. Now.

Bizarre. They will drop the 1 series M and keep their bloated land yachts like the 5GT in production? That suggests there is a lot more profit in the land yachts like the 5GT and the X6, and there must be enough dummies around to pay this extra profit margin.

Dude. Form follows function. Let the looks go. It performs wonderfully. At Hockenheimring, it stays within a tenth of a second of the M3.

Just Buy a Mustang GT and call it a day. (Better looking IMO, way cheaper, and just as fast)

Agreed...in addition it looks downright ugly. BMW design has been in the toilet bowl lately.

Soooooo, buy a M3 Coupe and be just as happy. Yes, I know there's a $10k price difference, but that still doesn't change anything. This sorta seems like non-news to me.

Whatever 1M they make in the future, we all know its going to be a FWD 3 cyl so who cares.

This may be a symptom of the smaller cars having a natural advantage that is hard to overcome. The M3 has traditionally performed nearly as well, or better than the M5. Now, this little number comes out and stands right along side the M3 on the track while being thousands cheaper. If all of the M cars perform more-or-less the same, why would someone drop double the coin for an M5 over this puppy? The only reason is interior space or prestige.

They are doing it VW R32 style. Sounds like a collectors car.

This seems a little odd -- why exert that much design, engineering, and tooling effort for such a small run? No idea if this is true, but maybe they didn't want the N55 HPFP fiasco to tarnish the M brand...

The E82 1M was always going to be a one-year wonder. The F20 1 Series replacement is about to live in months. Consider this the swan song for the E82 1 Series and M54 twin-turbo engine. And well done BMW AG!

Very cool, I applaud them for going thru all the R&D of such a car, only to produce it as a limited run "look what we can do if we want to" performance car. In some ways this and the Z3 M Coupe seem very similar to me, both are a unique combination of borderline cartoon-ish styling and downright intimidating proportions. I recently saw a gorgeous Z3 M with possibly the most aggressive wheel/tire combination you could fit in the wheel wells (not bling-y, but race-y). The license plate said "CLWNSHU", it forever changed the way I looked at a Z3 M, brilliant!
